Dear Pug Owner,

My purpose in writing to you is to request your participation in our genetic research involving Pugs at the University of California, Davis, Veterinary Genetics Laboratory. Our group is collaborating with Dr. Kimberly Greer of Texas A&M University to investigate the genetic cause of Pug Dog Encephalitis.

We need cheek swab DNA samples from many healthy control dogs for our project. Cheek swab collection is quick (a few minutes per dog) and well tolerated by most dogs. We will provide you with the swabs and a postage-paid, self-addressed envelope to make the process as easy as possible.

If you would like to participate in this research, please e-mail me with your mailing address and the number of dogs that you can sample. Alternatively, you may sign up for kits on line at the following link.

We ask for pedigree information, when possible, to determine the relatedness of the control dogs. Be assured that all information and results will be held in strict confidence.

Thank you for considering our request. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,
Katy
