Service.

We should honor all that serve our communities. Who has a greater impact a cop or an infantryman? A firefighter or a teacher? A garbage man or a general?

At times I thought this glorification of the military needs to stop. Then I come to the realization that the glorification should continue and expand. Couldn't we have a day for just community service. National Service Day. A day to honor ALL of the people who serve, not just the military.

Freedom isn't merely protected by men with firearms. Without an education, those warriors couldn't operate the tanks that wouldn't be designed. Without a fire department the warrior's families would burn to death in their houses. I think you know where I'm going. You don't have to dodge bullets to put your ass on the line for your country. Ask a nurse.

However, this line of thought is not meant to detract from our servicemen. I merely propose the idea that they don't own sacrifice exclusively.

I get that.

Then you can expand that further and send the love and respect from those who serve in the military to the single mom serving your meal at a restaurant. I think too often we see those who serve us, the non-glorified ones, as human punching bags simply because they are not rocket scientists.

A lil' love can go a long way.
