Background

Hopefully you will have seen the preamble on The Screamin' Lords in our news
section, leading up to the review of this album. As you can see from the
lineup above, it's pretty impressive. The band has been assembled by Jose
Ferro, a previous member of AOR heroes Agentz.
Their one-off beauty 'Stick To Your Guns' still remains a compulsory
addition to melodic rockers collections. However, The Screamin' Lords are a
far cry from the 80's era of Agentz,
Jose preferring to leave history at the doorstep, and move on with a new
band and a new sound - even if it is steeped in the tried and true classic
rock tradition. There are guitars all over the show here, but it doesn't
turn out to be fret-fest. No siree. The guitars are handled mainly by Boyer
and Gile, with guest spots allocated to Gus G, George Lynch, Chris Poland
and Loren Molinare. The whole thing is handled nicely indeed.

The Songs

All but two of the songs were written by Jose Ferro and vocalist Kelly
Keeling, and overall they combine well. From the fast moving metronomic
title track 'Long Live Me' to the modern Dokkensounding
'Halo', this band crank it out, with Gus G providing the fluid solos on the
former, whilst George Lynch tears up the latter. Despite the name, 'Evil' is
hardly that - a mid-paced tune that is a rest-stop along the way. Back out
onto the highway is 'Fire In The Blue Sky', containing Priest like riffs and
Chris Poland's guest solo. I really liked the next pair of 'Out Of Control',
the AC/DC theme
oh so obvious, while the bluesy swagger of 'Say What You Will' is an old Fastway tune
that many will remember from back in their early days. Robin McAuley sings
the lead on 'Gladrags & Limozenes', and his distinctive vocals stand out a
mile. How he will eventually sound when he fronts Survivor will
surely be interesting.. The album finishes up with the acoustic melodies of
'Sail On'.

In Summary

For an eight-tracker, this album is 100% switched on. No time or room for
soppy ballads, just head-on rock n roll. Taking riffs out of the yesteryear
songbooks, you'll feel right at home if classic rock a laJudas Priest, AC/DC, Aerosmith and Ted
Nugent
 is your bag. Given a
modern day production job, the environment may have been pristine for the
recording of this album, but the guitars sound rough and ready on 'Long Live
Me'. Sure to be around for awhile to come, welcome to The Screamin' Lords.
Get out there and check 'em out at a gig near you!
