BROKEN DISCO 2.0

ROUND 3 - 03/20/09

:: IDOLSTAGE ::

:: HOOKERZ & BLOW : LIVE :: Featuring MOZAIC & EPROM : San Francisco
www.myspace.com/hookerzandblow
www.myspace.com/mozaicmusic
www.myspace.com/eprommusic

HOOKERS & BLOW, (a side project by Mozaic & EPROM), is a live DJ vs.
laptop mash-up already laying waste to unsuspecting dance floors in the Bay Area
and beyond with stupid fresh jams best described as Psyphy, Strip-Hop,
Trancehall, Clubstep, and Halfway House. Need a visual aid? Picture it: It's
the summer of '99 and the bastard love child of Daft Punk and E-40 is on a Green
Tortoise from Oakland to downtown L.A. to go hear Derrick May at a warehouse
party with some friends. He gets stranded in Santa Cruz when 2 Live Crew
attempts to hijack the bus - only to be thwarted by some shady d'nb kids who
happened upon the scene during a routine beer run, but nonetheless leaving our
traveling raver S.O.L. The wee hours eventually find our protagonist stumbling
onto a full moon party on Bonny Doon beach where he candy flips with some of
the strongest acid and MDMA known to man and ends up watching the sun come up
over the Pacific to a soundtrack of King Tubby and slowed-down Si Begg records.
Later on a bad trip is triggered during an ugly incident with a local "light worker and powerful healer" forcing a hasty exodus. A ride is hitched back to SF with some coke dealers from Salinas on their way to the Endup. Our hero is talked into one last detour at said club, but is later ejected for heckling the DJ for playing too much "warmed over diva house." Get the picture?

:: DEEPCHILD : LIVE :: Australia : Freerange / Get Physical
www.deepchild.com/blog/
www.myspace.com/deepchile

DEEPCHILD is Australian DJ/producer Rick Bull – a stalwart of the Australian
deep-house/minimal-tech community and long-time radio presence on the airwaves of Fbi 94.5FM radio in Sydney. Touring as a top billing DJ along-side the likes of Richie Hawtin and Green Velvet (at the massive EXIT Festival, Serbia), Jeff Mills (Tribal Sessions in Leeds), Jesse Rose, Dixon and Sebo K (for Jesse's "Made to Play"
monthly at Berlin's legendary Panorama Bar), M.A.N.D.Y (Watergate, Berlin), Ewan
Pearson and Will Saul (SONAR, Barcelona). Deepchild has also done remix work for
techno superstars, Booka Shade. If the increasingly demanding international
schedule of weren't enough (try playing Germany and then Kuala Lumpur in the
space of 4 days!), a continuing string of highly successful 12"s on labels
and remixes have well and truly solidified Deepchild's reputation as a serious
'contender' in the saturated international dance-music community. His journey has been a long and sonically expansive one. Recent DJ support from
the likes of Justin Martin, Mattias Tanzman and Hipp-e, sits solidly against the
proclamations of respected music journal, The Wire, who went as far as to
proclaim that his sound was "as sexy and addictive as new-dub electronica
gets". From quirky, stripped-back techno to deep dub explorations,
Deepchild has proven a robust producer and highly respected DJ and
live-performer.

"Mmm...FRESH!"- Africa Bambaataa
"Yeah baby, that's how I like it"- Jeff Samuel
“Antipodean DJ and producer Rick Bull’s latest 5 track EP showcases his subterranean take on nu-jazz, glitchy deep house and the type of dub you can hear at Cielo on Monday nights; perfect for long brooding sets..” - (BPM Magazine US)

:: CTRL_ALT_DLT
vs. AWGGIE : DJ Set :: Seattle : Sweatbox / LiveNLove vs. BootyResin / Awggie.com
www.myspace.com/ctrlaltdltseattle
www.awggie.com

CTRL_ALT_DLT is a Seattle based DJ originally hailing from the tame streets of suburban Detroit. "I went to my first party in 1999 and I have had this insatiable appetite for techno music ever since, I just can't get enough." Strongly influenced by the sounds coming out of the Motor City Ctrl_Alt_Dlt has taken the genre of techno and made it his own. His sets are rooted in the minimal sound with an emphasis on the more abstract side of things, while also fully incorporating all elements of techno
and tech house creating a set full of highs and lows, never giving away too much
at a time. "I like to find tracks that have the weirdest most abstract noises possible. Exposing people's minds to sounds and textures they have never heard before is my ultimate goal." In addition to residencies with the Spy and Knight Rider crews Ctrl_Alt_Dlt is one half of the techno extravaganza known as "mnml_ctrl" and a founding member of Sweatbox, a strictly techno based productions group.

AWGGIE or Adam Gentz as many of his friends know him has been spinning
electronic music since he crossed paths with it in early 2002. Since he could
talk Adam has been involved in music, in various choirs and ensembles and with
several instruments throughout his early life. As with many budding electronica
enthusiasts, he traveled an eclectic journey through hard trance, NRG, and not
just one type of Drum and Bass, finally arriving at a mix of tech, minimal and
acid house. In 2006 Adam began a foray into production of electronic music.
Focusing mostly on techno and tech house with a silly, acid-flavored minimalist
style.

:: MICHAEL MANAHAN : DJ Set ::Seattle : Starborne / Decibel
www.michaelmanahan.com/bio.htm
www.myspace.com/campecotopia

MICHAEL MANAHAN is an essential and vital element of the Left Coast electronic music community. He nourishes the underground with his deep and phat-funky tribal house sets and his immense contributions to the exploration of consciousness and spiritual evolution through art and music. This DJ, performer, producer, and space cowboy is also the co-founder of the Oracle Gatherings, the co-producer of the Decibel Festival and the co-producer of the electronic music stage at Hempfest, the world’s largest reform protest. Also the owner of Starborne Productions, Manahan is an innovator and a leader of the Seattle dance community and tribal culture; a mainstay in the scene whose presence always ups the love whether he is spinning dubby house, hard techno, glitch-ridden breaks, spacey downtempo, or just hanging out being himself.

:: RECESS vs. ROBB GREEN : DJ Set :: Shameless SEA vs. Shameless SF : Shameless / Club Pop
www.simplyshameless.com
www.myspace.com/djrecess
www.myspace.com/robbgreen

RECESS was raised on the industrial, new wave, and pop music of the final two decades of the last century. In the late 80's Recess found his second home at the now defunct Club Underground in Seattle's University District. Using these early experiences as a platform, he started collecting records and honing his skills at various clubs around the Northwest quickly establishing himself as a formidable performer. Recess is the main force behind Shameless in Seattle (Broken Disco, Electric Avenue, BootyLIB, the Official Decibel Festival afterparties and numerous other local one offs with artists such as Modeselektor, Drop the Lime, Egyptian Lover, Godfather & Tittsworth) and he continues to turn heads with his unique take on dance music. He's played alongside heavy hitters such as Modeselektor, Green Velvet, Felix Da Housecat, Damian Lazarus, MSTRKRFT, John Tejada, DJ Assault, Ewan Pearson and could quite easily be caught playing electro/discopunk at one club, baile funk/bmore club/ghetto tech at another, or techno/house/breaks depending upon the crowd and party. His versatility has led to being nominated in 2006 for the Seattle Weekly's Best Local DJ contest. Whether it's an afterhours loft space, major club, mountaintop, or random BASSment; Recess consistently brings the sounds and energy to fit any dance party.

ROBB GREEN came of age at the close of the eighties and the birth of the nineties.  He was largely influenced at the time by the likes of bands such as Nine Inch Nails,
The Beastie Boys, and Operation Ivy. But the story really begins when Robb moved to Atlanta and was truly exposed to both the Atlanta hip-hop and rave scenes. Having grown up in North Carolina, he had only been able to glimpse what either of the two might have been like. Robb first started messing around with hip-hop records in 1995. However, the break beat scene was converging on Atlanta and Mr. Green was swept along with it. Breaks would come to be Robb's first love. He then found himself in Bend, OR where big beat and house music pleased his ears. It was in Bend that Robb had his first residency, Tekno Thursdays at The Eclipse playing any type of techno he could find. One year later, Robb moved to Seattle armed with his love for music. Luckily he found Beats International and Bryan Lyons, where he was exposed to house music by Lyons, Wesley Holmes, Brent Lawrence, and Jon Lee. Shortly
after, Robb found himself opening for Bryan on Saturday nights at The Noc Noc
and playing deep house pretty exclusively. In 2003, Robb was picked up by
Tilted Records and found his very own true love, electro house. With a label standing behind him and a record store at his disposal, he dove head first into his new passion. In 2004, Robb met Recess and all things Shameless while running his afterhours spot, Nightcap. He quickly took to the Shameless attitude, finally feeling
what had be missing from his musical taste, things more edgy and down right
dirty. Just like him. Robb relocated to San Francisco almost 2 years ago where he expands Shameless territory with Shameless SF, indoctrinating the local alternative dance music scene in the Shameless and Mr. Green ethos.

:: SKOI : DJ Set :: Seattle : AudibleBicycleDay
www.myspace.com/skoi

SKOI hails from the electronic underground with beats for the body, soul, and mind; his passion injects a cerebral element into his music that lifts his sets to a higher spiritual domain. Self-converted to the electronic side after a thick dose of jungle and drum and bass at the Ice House, an abandoned warehouse in Arizona in the early 00’s, he now walks the path of the underground, pushing boundaries with vinyl-only sets as often as possible. Representing his home of Seattle through the music collectives of audiblebicycleday and The Oracle Gatherings, Skoi spins spiritually-infused IDM lathered breaks and downtempo beats that take you on an aural voyage through several musical realms of being before bringing you back again with a smile on your face and a groove in your brain.
