DEVILUTION - Welcome (Review in Devolution Magazine, UK)
Name similarities aside, this Australian Industrial Rock band are making waves all over the place including on our covermount CD, so it's about time we reviewed their self released album.
'Welcome' is surprisingly good. First impressions when you see the cover art and more so the CD booklet is a little cheesy, but when the music kicks in it's a whole new ball game, albeit one that is probably loudly played against someone's garage in blatent disregard for the big sign saying 'No Ball Games'.
Stepping away from the current trend to go Goth with Industrial music, this settles comfortably into its grove of fun Rock guitars, frantic drumming and Industrial keyboards to create a seething and heavy sound with a nod to 80's Cock Rock. But they are not afraid to experiment and mix up styles such as on 'Goodbye World' which starts with an emphasis mainly on the Heavy Rock but then 'Revolution Devilution' has a distinctly Combichrist feel.
If you like your music to be fast paced and heavy and are looking for something new and fresh with a blend of styles that meld rather than just sound messy or disjointed then hey these guys could do with your cash and you will profit from their sound. All round win me thinks.
