Category: Games

My excitement has grown for the upcoming game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, after they put the demo on XBL. September 16th can't come soon enough.

The day the demo came out, I had some serious internet problems -- which didn't allow me to download it. I could see on my friends list all my friends playing it -- and they were all messaging me telling me what an amazing demo it was (short, but sweet). One even went as far as saying it's the best game they've played all year, and it's just a demo. I was in tears over the deal, incredbily upset over the fact I couldn't play it.

The next day my internet was still messed up, so I lugged my 360 over to another persons house and downloaded it there.

From the first moment that the Lucas Arts logo comes across the screen, I was holding my breath.

There were a few things I disliked and liked about the demo,

The Unlimited Power and Increased Damage were pretty neat -- I went through the demo a few times without picking up the triangles and it was significantly harder.  Makes me wonder what other power ups the game is going to have.

Being able to drop a Tie Fighter in the hanger on unexpecting Troopers, was awesome. Actually, scratch that. Everything there is to do in the hanger is pretty sweet. You really get to test your powers out with everything in there.

I wasn't a fan of the targeting, until you got ahold of the how to use the camera angle in order to change the targeting it was kinda difficult. (That was frusterating the first couple of times trying to move the walk way braces in order to knock down the Tie Fighters after Eclipse announced to keep an eye out.) But as far as the other controls go, the game is incredibly smooth.

The first few times I played it, I had issues with the first cutt scene and the voice acting not matching up. But it only happend a couple times and might just be my 360 (It's a launch system and it's starting to act up a bit..)

And the amount of attacks you have, hopefully as the game progresses you'll have the ability to really change and alter the different attacks and styles you have based on how you level him.

And I played it on the three difficulties that weren't locked. Apprentice, Sith Warrior and Sith Lord -- and to me there wasn't that big of a difference as far as the AI went.

And the last thing I didn't like? And this my friends, is the biggest one.

It was too freakin' short. :(

I've probably played the demo close to 10 times now -- probably more than that by the time you're reading this. 24 days is too far away, but I've already taken off the 16th and the 17th. I'm ready to play :)

What's your views on the demo? Are you excited about the game? Pros and Cons? I want to know :)

[EDIT: they actually put up the themes and gamer pictures up for it. so you can rock the characters as your theme or even your gamer picture right now. :) ]

I played the game yesterday. It was fun as hell. We also did a side by side with the 360 and ps3. the 360 version looks a lot more vibrant in color, and looked better in detail. Play and everything is the same.

I liked it, but thought the controls were a bit lose. Maybe they can fix that before the ship date.

If the clone wars finally gave us 1 good 2000's star wars film, then this game could save the franchise.

I had fun with the demo. It entertained me. I really enjoyed being able to pick up a person with the force, swing them near another person, and they hold hands and can throw them around every where! That was sweet.

I really can't seem to wrap my head (or rather, my hands) around the controlls. They seem fairly akward. Countless times I would attempt to throw an explosive barrel at a group of people and it would either drop to the ground and explode, or fly back towards me and explode.

Also, Starkiller's facial expressions don't look right at all. I was reminded of that one Dane Cook skit wher he speaks about the guy at work who isn't fat, and isn't skinny, but just "shapes". His entire face just sorta, blobbed aroud as sound was comming out of it. He defanately looked alot cooler in Soul Calibur 4, thats for sure.

If I am to buy this game, I think it would be specifically for the achievements. Oh well. I'm glad you like it! =D

I powered up my semi-dead PS3 today just to download this demo to play. (80010514 Error, AKA My blu-ray drive is fried. Wonderful.)
I've always been a huge Star Wars fan, and ever since Star Wars Galaxies (pre-cu) I've been waiting for another game to really tickle my Star Wars fancy.
Obviously, a game where I get to play Darth Vader's secret apprentice and unleash full force on all of the universe, sounded promising.
But of course I had to experience it first hand.
Well first and foremost I must say the menu leaves a little bit to be desired, but then again it is just a demo. The tutorial was fun, the robot who was talking to me reminded me of that quirky bot in KOTOR that called me a meatbag. I love when the androids pick on the human condition :-P
But that's where I started getting a little confused. The controls are a little hard to pick up in my opinion. It allows you to have full control, which is great, but it feels... awkward.
Now no lie, I did enjoy the demo quite a bit. Some favorite moments were when the AI kicked in.
For example, I grabbed one of the stormtroopers, swung him about, and he grabbed onto his friend. There I was holding two flailing stormtroopers clutched onto each other for dear life. Awesome.

Jumping seemed a little bit more hurtful than helpful when it came to attacking. Sometimes I felt stupid because I would hop in the air, expecting to do some move where I'd come down and slice through a stormtrooper with my lightsaber, but instead I'd be flailing about in the air, just to float down and have to run around. But it is helpful for dodging around incoming fire, especially combined with the Force Sprint which proved to be VERY useful.
One move that really caught my eye, because of the fact my nerd mind concocted this idea years ago, was that using a combination of saber attacks and then pressing the force lightning button caused the saber to be charged with your electricity and come chopping down like a huge uber powered blade. Quite a good choice.

BUT I've only had limited time with the demo, and I've gotten stuck on the part with the AT-AT.
I know you're supposed to charge him, attack him, and some sort of combo comes up, but when I get to the second button press of the combo (X in my case) it seems to not recognize what I'm doing, and fail. Miserably. So I end up running around dodging the onslaught of the very powerful AT-AT, trying to throw things at it to kill it because the way I'm supposed to kill it isn't working. Feh.

Am I impressed? Yes. The game is beautiful, fun, and well thought out. The story is the part I am interested in most. So far it seems to be building a good character base for the young apprentice. You can see the hesitation in his face when Vader instructs him to kill rebel AND imperials alike. So it shows that even though he is a dark jedi, the apprentice still has some sort of morals left in him. But of course he kills with no remorse. Wouldn't be much of a Sith if he didn't :-P

The controls I think could use a little work, and call me crazy, but I think when you're throwing things about, you should be able to lock onto your targets. (Maybe you can and I haven't found it out yet, but when I tried it did not succeed.)

Overall it's a pretty good demo, and I'm excited to play this game.

The Force Unleashed makes me want to trade in a few games. Not because I need the money, but I realize I am going to play this game from start to finish with very few breaks. The demo was a little too short, but I think any Star Wars fan would say that. You can never get too much SW. I am worried that they game may end up being a little too easy in parts, but we'll have to see. Sometimes demos don't give us a good idea of how the game as a whole will be.

I was kind of excited about this game, but I really didn't like the demo. I hate the camera controls and I fear all the game will be is going around destroying things. I applaud Lucas for finally making a story after Episode 3 (hello Clone Wars movie garbage, didn't see it, but just for making another Clone Wars it's garbage), but I'd rather pull one of my own teeth than give Lucas one more cent of my money. I'll pass on this one.

I enjoyed the demo very much. BUT I don't think that it will fill the void that I have after playing Knights Of The Old Republic (Still waiting on KOTOR3). I do think it will be a very good game. =)

i beat the demo 4 times. it def makes me want to play the real game more now cause the demo is way too short. the most surprising thing to me about the game is having all your powers at the start of the game and just having them upgrade along the way. i think that's a good idea cause the actions seems like it gets real hectic later on and that at walker took me down a few times before i actually looking at the bottom of the screen and noticed the quick time button press sequence

I don't think it's going to leave up to the hype. IGN gave it a 7.3 kinda low for a game that I thought was going to be in the 9s. I thought the demo was alright.
