Well it's not like it's not like it was unanticipated, but sometime shortly after I left Groves' house with my stomach full of cheesesteaks I got the call from my mother that my grandfather had passed away. Sadly it was almost a relief. Every time I returned to see him at Griffin hospital he looked more of a shell than anything else. For 5 days he refused all food and even water until everything just shut itself down. I saw him the day before and he looked nightmarish. All doped to the gills on morphine and barely able to breathe. Lord knows how my grandmother stayed there everyday all day. My mother and I drove down to Derby to break the news to my grams who had headed home for the night. For some reason the hospital had called my mother first and she wanted to be the one to tell her. We talked late into the night and I stayed up even later once I drove home watching very old very bad Amicus films, swilling mexican beer and italian wine, and...other things, all under the watchful eye of my neighbors orange cat who followed me in the door. My head is still feeling the effects as I write this, I need sleep.
