POPRAVINAS NEWS! The Popravinas in the recording studio

Finally..."The Popravinas" are in Santa Monica Studios recording a lengthy list of songs that include
"Johnny's gotta Girlfriend", "She's Got Fashion" "Temporary Relief" and "Biggest Shot."
We're still in the early stages, so you won't hear anything for awhile yet.
However...It shouldn't be tooooo long till that long awaited, "Popravinas" full-length CD is finally out.
We will keep you posted!

The Popravinas

"The Popravinas" continue recording their lengthy list of songs which even included a raucous rendition of The Replacements "Bastards of Young"....along with new tunes such as "Do you Think?" and "Girl with a Workface on"...and a couple re-arranged Popravinas standards. So many to choose from!
Hats off to lovely Jing (who cooked a Beijing-style banquet) and Brigitte (who supplied sandwiches, drinks & dancing). You can't find that kinda catering anywhere in LA!
Brian's work is pretty much finished (and what a job he did behind the Ludwig set!)...and
Johnny's going to NY later this week (shuffling salad is of the past with him), so most of the work will continue upon his return.
To friends and fans.....
We'll keep you in mind down the line for "gang backup vocals" and BBQ....
"You bring the buns!"

Johnny's back from NY and The Nocturnal bar gig is behind us (thanks to all for a great turnout!).
It's now back in the studio to work on many tunes.
Eddy layed the bass down....and after a slow start everything proceeded just "lovely."
The real interesting part starts this weekend.
Guitar..Guitar..Guitar!...and the sounds promise to be even "lovlier."
Should be much to report later this weekend!

All we can say is...Wow! Wow!! Wow!!!
Johnny puts in a blistering 12 hours of work on "The Popravinas" tunes, and does he EVER do a great job.
It's been said that he's "good in the studio" (though some girls differ on that opinion)...but on this day he was none short of "stupendous."
Brian & Eddy threw him a few ideas in "Clowns 'n Towns" & "Do you think"....and he gulped them up and immediately spit them out in sonically brilliant fashion.
Do we have a great record in the making here?!?!
The "catering" out did itself again as Brigitte loaded the room with exotic sandwiches & treats...While Jing brought in the dumpling table smothered with green beans.
Engineer Oscar was unstoppable...and who was that cute blonde replacement later in the eve?????
Beer was supplied by China & Japan...via Tshingtao & Sapporo.
Even Brian looked a little tipsy as he was showered with high-powered ideas.
But today....the real star was Johnny.
He brought more than "the buns" on this particular session!

Eddy hasn't been in the best of "dental health" lately...But the show must go on. Hopefully, it won't affect "drinking nights" next weekend. But again..."The Popravinas" recording must continue.
He stumbled, bumbled...and rumbled to a long list of tunes, lyrics and voice....until it came to a "nicely hoarse" version of "Bastards of Young."
Not bad for a guy with a sore mouth.
Johnny gave his valid opinions & support...Ron manned the controls...and Brigitte ate chocolate cake...again!
We're getting closer folks!
The only questions will soon be...which take to keep...which laugh to continue....and which song to spread on the CD.
What is there??...About 16 of them?!
Remakes of old Replacement songs...Remakes of old Popravinas songs....And new & arty sketches of the latest "Popravinas" music.
We haven't reached our peak yet, but we just might at Molly Malones on Fri. 9/7 (formerly 8/22).
"Johnny sez that it's really such a mess......"
A GOOD mess....

Yes....Another Sunday and another step closer to the new "Popravinas" CD.
Eddy (in much better shape...thank you) finished up the lead vocals touching on "Bastards", "Do you Think?"(the studio fave), and the newly recorded version of "Nearest Pretty Girl."
It's time for Johnny to do his backup vocals extraordinaire...and then it's on to mixing the whole bunch of 'em.
The debates are already flying as to which one's make the Top 11.
The highlight of the afternoon had to be the rousing gang-backup vocals from Brigitte, Jing, Engineer Oscar....and Brian (who supplied the image with blue cowboy boots!) on "Biggest Shot." I think there might even be a pic on here soon of the festive moment.
Do you think these people will want residuals?!?!....ha!
Who was that gang sitting in "Gyu-Kaku" on Pico enjoying a Japanese style BBQ with beer and sake later?!
None other than Brigitte, Johnny (who relieved the place of their leche & sake), Jing (who relieved the place of their food) and Eddy.
In the end....Brigitte proclaimed herself...."A Popravinas Girl!!"
Isn't that sensational???? There must be a song or lyric there somewhere.
See you at the bar.....

Eddy & Johnny finally got back in the studio, as Eddy's "anti-biotic woes" are hopefully fading out....Yech!!!
Johnny's done some fine backup vocals during the hiatus and everything seems to be in place.
We're looking at some fixes and changes by next week.
Brigitte put her makeup on while the duo ran through the list of dreaded tunes.
All in all...Everything is sounding "quite" tremendous.
We should see some mixes in the very near future by a very cool guy...with a VERY long name.
The surprise of the day was Johnny's "version 2" of what could now be called "Country Shot"...or "AltCountry Shot."
A frolicking, violin-hopping, toe stomping version of the actual...."Biggest Shot in Town."
Rumours persist that it might end up on My Space sooner than you can say...next week!!
I think we're headed to the Kings Head for some pints in the mean time....finally!

We've taken down the old....and brought you a sample of the new.
The "fun" version of "Biggest Shot".....the acoustic "Country Shot"... has been uploaded to our page for your NOW very crazy listening pleasure.
Have a listen!
The official version of "Biggest Shot" will be released with the record...but for now, we thought it was time to give you a preview.
For you more "rocknroll/pop rocker" fans of "The Popravinas"...fear not.
The record will be "pumped full" of your kinda material.
In the meantime....Enjoy "Country Shot"....Complete with Johnny's violin, and backup vocals from a host of bar friends.
"I even have connections....with circus clownnnnnnns".....

Johnny & Eddy went in (with Brigitte behind board) to clean up, remove & add some things...as we inch closer to the mixing process. Another "fab" performance by young Johnny. Again...He has totally outdone himself in the studio....AGAIN!
The new versions of "Things are gonna change" and "Popravina Weekend" are ohhhh so impressive.
Wait until YOU hear them through your car speakers!
Hold onto your steering wheel!
A few more fixes, etc. and we'll be "in the mix."
It's all getting very exciting.
Many thanks again to Brigitte....Besides being a "Popravina girl"....You are definitely a ...."darlin"....:).
"The Popravinas" (and the Steelers).... move on.

After a long night of drinking...(but no real hangovers)....Johnny & Eddy met up on a late Sunday afternoon and laid down some tracks to "Girl with a Workface." What a different, interesting, beautiful song it will be!
Johnny (as usual) did great work on the piano...Eddy struggled out the bass....and Brigitte ate Italian food.
For those of you who have wondered why this is all taking so long....Well...Some of the excuses would be vacations, illnesses and the Pittsburgh Steelers...Not in any particular order of events.
However, things continue to progress & impress.
It won't be that long till you'll be driving to the bar listening to the new "Popravinas" CD!
Also...You might notice we've added an old Mutts recording of "Wants to Belong" while we're waiting on the new stuff. Most of you have seen "The Popravinas" put their own touch to this one at some point in time.
Remember.....Two shows in November!
Hang in there ....and...See you at the bar!

Well...It's been awhile since reporting work on "The Popravinas" CD.
There has been "unreported" work...especially by Johnny Salad.
Many nights he stands (with no shoes and Troy Polamalu hair) over the console correcting errors (?), creating new ideas and rough mixes. Hats off to Johnny and his hard work. The "ever-loyal" Brigitte continues to make runs to every nearby eatery, bringing the best cuisine this side of Brussels.
Yesterday...Eddy came in with Johnny and (engineer) Jake, and they proceeded to get close mixes on "Popravina Weekend", "Long Walk Back", "Clowns 'n Towns" and "She's got Fashion."
Don't hold your breath folks, but I think we're getting close.
The schedule has been laid down and in the next week we should be very close.
Keep saving those nickels & dimes, because it won't be long till you can use them to hear this long-awaited conglomeration of the "party after the party."
Brian & lovely lady leave for a Paris holiday on Wednesday, Dean has been racking up business traveler miles to Florida....and the band is warming up for some shows in a neighborhood bar near YOU.
