well, it has been done.  despite the numerous reactions to my twitter (announcing that I was going to cut my hair) being mostly, "NOOOO, don't do it!!!!!" from the guys, and "it's gonna look adorable" from the girls, well.....i did it!

it was time.  i've had long hair for a while, and my locks grow back fast, so i'm not too worried.  i discovered that i would chop off enough hair to actually donate and people could use something out of it.  so i decided to give it to Locks Of Love, which is a non-profit that makes hair pieces for financially disadvantaged kids.  Who wouldn't want to give to that??  So, knowing that my hair of many, many years was going to a really good cause made me feel even more excited about the cut.  But i have to say, as i packed my hair away in a baggie and an addressed envelope, I felt sort of sad to say goodbye.  But also really thankful.

Anyway, you can watch the video here:  http://bit.ly/b2SQE

I hope hair that's been cut off doesn't gross you out.  It definitely gives me a little bit of the heebies--and it's my own hair!  It almost looks like a body part.  It looks so dead when it's not connected to your head, and when it's in a big mass like that.

i'm still getting used to the new 'do.  it's SO different.  i'm this girl now.  the girl with short hair.  i do find myself staring at photos of women with beautiful long hair and wonder if i made a mistake, or ponder how long it's gonna take for me to grow it all back again.  But then, I really like the change.  The fact that I just jumped in and did it, and can look back and say, "oh yea....remember when I was 25 and i chopped off all my hair?  what the F was i thinking?"  I feel like my new hair and I are still settling in together.  I'm excited to see where it goes.

And sorry to talk to so much about my hair--but it's a BIG DEAL!!!  my poor fiance has heard me talk about it for the past week now.  "should i get it cut?", "should i just keep my long hair?", "i can't believe i'm cutting my hair!", to "do you really like my hair cut?".  His answers are:  "yes", "no", "shit man", and "for the 89th time, yes."

FIRST- I would have paid you $1,000.00 for a nice long lock of your hair. You could donate the money if you want. It not some "kinky" thing!- It's a collectors thing.

SECOND- It's just HAIR! To someone who is bald, it might have a lot of meaning. But hair just grows back! So as long as you have it, HAVE FUN with it!

THIRD- IF you were BALD, you'd still be just as beautiful. "A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet."

Charming as always.... An act of kindness that will without a doubt  change the life of a child... Locks of love is an amazing organization which helps restore one of the most valuable qualities in a person,  confidence.... so they can feel they can do whatever it is that they "Dream" ....
My daughter donated her hair last year, and it has also made such an impact on her life to know that she made a difference for some other child...

You look beautiful!!!♥

Way to go!  Donating your hair is a great idea; at least it was long enough to donate without having to get a buzz-cut, like I did.  12" takes a long time to grow.  The upside is that now you'll spend less time getting ready in the morning, and less money to buy shampoo/conditioner!

Locks of Love is THE reason to keep growing your hair until it's long enough!  I grew mine out for a fund-raiser many years back, and after it was cut somebody gathered it all up and tossed it out on the lawn in front of the house without us knowing.  We walked out after it was a little dark and thought there was a cat on the lawn - it was my HAIR!!

CUT + E = CUTE.  If you're having lingering regrets, one big plus of all this is you no longer look like Natasha Khan (Bat for Lashes).  But it really does look cute!

I cut my hair in early 2008 and donated it to Locks Of Love. I'm growing it back again, back to the epic heavy metal length that it was... since it was epic!

So funny you got a new haircut! I've been pondering my brain off the last week whether or not I should get a pony again, like you. Had it before, but everytime I get it I love it the first two days and then I'm like.. Hmm, maybe I shouldn't have done that. And now you've cut off your hair?
I cut mine about a year and a half ago, really short, in a bob too and it was soooo weird to adjust to it. Especially cause it was about as long as yours was. But you'll get used to it. It's just something you have to do if the idea sticks in your head for quite a while. And so I did. Now I'm thinking about the pony again.. I'll give it another few days. But I'll probably have one again by the end of next week. Good luck with the hairdo, and remember, it doesn't change who you are. It's just a haircut. And I am not my hair ;)

Ps: so loving of you to donate it to Locks of Love, I'm sure it'll be in good hands and on a good head.

Change is sometimes what we (need).
I say:  "Good girl!" ... at your courage.
Hair is (really) such a small thing, since it will grow back.
But, I understand completely the (identity) associated with it.
But, your (SPIRIT) is (blossoming & changing) -
So, just go with your (instincts:)
You are beautiful ..no matter what!!
And your (music) is wonderful!!
Peace & smiles to you!

cute, but you could have gone even shorter - like a pixie cut. if you're going to chop it off, may as well go all the way!

I have found that when girls cut their hair, it is an outward sign of an inward change (ususally a big one).

AND it's YOUR hair! You can cut it or not...

I love that you used music from Amelie in the video! It's definitely an Amelie-ish cut, and how can that not be an amazing thing? I think a haircut can be very liberating.
