We attended a reading at Robbins Books the other day. Author Mark Wolverton did a reading from his new book A LIFE IN TWILIGHT about J. Robert Oppenheimer and the last years of his life. In addittion to the reading, he wrote a monologue from the viewpoint of Oppenheimer's wife, Kitty, which was dramatically performed by local theater owner Denise Shubin. Sadly, Robbins will no longer be a bookstore as of this week, a victim of the growing recession. However, the upstairs will continue to operate as an arts center. At the transition party on Sunday, a number of live musical acts and an open mike for poets was held. Most of the acts were enjoyable, but the performance of Rustic Music Company really stood out for me. I will have to seek out more of their music.
