A.Ferentinos: So
tell me how this band came about.

V.Vidavici: Well, around
mid to late 2006, I was living with my bassist friend and we were jamming with
this other band for a while. That was kind of stupid ‘cause it seemed like all
the energy was spent trying to get things together and everything was just way
too hard. We could never really get to the act of playing music together, which
really frustrated me. And when we did get together, it seemed like all anyone
wanted to do was get hammered. That’s all good and fun but what about making
music? Getting hammered all the time isn’t gonna take you anywhere. So anyway,
I decided to put my own thing together. The bassist left the band with me and I
posted an ad for a vocalist and drummer on Craig’s List. That’s how I found
Shane and our first drummer Jason. Wait a second! That’s not entirely correct,
because I placed an ad on MySpace for a drummer as well and I think that’s how
Jason came along. Of course we tried out several different people before we
decided on Shane and Jason.....

A.Ferentinos:  How did you come up with the name?

V.Vidavici: Well, that’s
something I’ve been kicking around since I was a teenager. It’s really from the
movie, The Omen II. I just liked the story behind it and the way it sounds.
It’s just cool. I like it.....

A.Ferentinos: You
do most of the writing. Is that correct?

V.Vidavici: Yeah.....

A.Ferentinos: Why?
What’s with that look on your face? Is that a good thing?

V.Vidavici: Yeah. It’s a
good thing. I like the writing part. That’s what I do. I’ve always considered
myself more of a song writer than a guitarist. Just some stuff I’m going
through right now. Kind of shitty. Ask me about it a few months from now when
everything has been settled!....

A.Ferentinos: What
are your biggest influences as a writer and as a guitarist?

V.Vidavici: Hey, thanks
for breaking that up into two sections. They are such different things you
know.
A lot of people lump the two together but they shouldn’t be.  I mean, I love Slayer but the guitarists have
never been an influence on my playing. The music as a whole has. But the
individual parts? Not so much. As for other artists, let’s see. There’s
Dissection, Black Sabbath, At The Gates- I don’t really talk about them that
much ‘cause there are so many At The Gates influenced bands out there. Kind of
like Lamb Of God. I mean how many bands do you hear these days and go, yeah
those guys listen to a lot of Lamb Of God! But as far as who influenced me the
most as a player? I would have to say people like Randy Rhoades, Marty
Freidman, Wolf Hoffman, Dimebag – guys like that. Not so much that I liked the
music they were playing as I love what they were doing with it.

A.Ferentinos: I
hear the Rhoades influence in your soloing.

V.Vidavici: Good. Thanks.

A.Ferentinos: Outside
of those first two Ozzy albums, are you a big Ozzy fan?

V.Vidavici: No. Not
really. I don’t really like anything past those first two records. I’m not a
big Zak fan. I don’t really like any of the players that came before him. Brad
Gillis was good on Speak of the Devil. But that’s about it. It’s like those
first two records exist in their own space. There’s really nothing else like
them. They’re not the heaviest albums but they’re dark you know? Well at least
for the time they were recorded. But as a guitarist, I get a good kick out of
listening to them.

A.Ferentinos: What’s
the new album going to sound like? What can we expect?

V.Vidavici: Well it’s a
bit faster I guess. Shorter songs. A bit more involved. The production will be
a lot different. I’m trying new things. The last one was just heavy. This one
is gonna be heavier, I think, but there will also be a lot more texture and
diversity. Don’t worry it’s a Thrasher!....

A.Ferentinos: Can
you say anything about a release date?....

V.Vidavici: No. Not yet.
I’m kind of in the middle of some things. Let’s just say that some unexpected
things have come up that have placed the recording process at a stand-still.....

A.Ferentinos: Line
up?....

V.Vidavici: Yeah!....

A.Ferentinos: So
who’s in the band right now?....

V.Vidavici: Well Shane’s
back! ....

A.Ferentinos: Good!....

V.Vidavici: Yeah. He was
out for a while and we had another guy. Shane and I worked out our differences
and he’s finishing out the album. We’ve been working on the lyrics-getting them
just right. He always was a good lyrical writer.....

A.Ferentinos: I
agree. The songs on Requiem have an unpredictable vocal rhythm that sets them
apart for other Thrash bands. Kind of Death Metal but kind of Jazzy. Who else?

V.Vidavici: Well that’s
all I can say right now. The other guys that were in there for a few months
have been up to some funny stuff and we have to work it all out! I really just
want this stage to be over. It’s really frustrating me the way some people
think. At the end of the day, all I want is to be able to play and record the
music I write and love. That’s it. ....

A.Ferentinos: So
will you finally tour this album?

V.Vidavici: I’m working
on it. I know that Shane really wants to. So do I. I’m not the biggest fan of
the live shit but, yeah I’d like to tour. We had that one tour booked back in
2007 and I was really excited about that. So we’ll see.....

A.Ferentinos: What
happened with that?....

V.Vidavici: Line up!....

A.Ferentinos: Oh.
Ok. Can I…

V.Vidavici: Please don’t!
No. What happened is that the drummer we had at the time had some issues that
prevented him from leaving the state so we had to cancel. We ended up deciding
that it was gonna take him way too long to straighten everything out so we
decided that he needed to be replaced. We liked him and all, but that’s what we
had to do.....

A.Ferentinos: So
what do you think about the current state of Thrash?....

V.Vidavici: It’s ok isn’t
it? There are some good bands out there.....

A.Ferentinos: Who do you like?....

V.Vidavici: I love The
Absence. Those guys are great. I’d love to tour with them. Then there’s
Warbringer. I like those guys a lot. Then there’s this band from Spain. I can’t
remember their name, but they are really good. Awesome riffs.....

A.Ferentinos: What about Old School Thrash?....

V.Vidavici: What about
it?....

A.Ferentinos: Well your music, on the instrumental end,
sounds so Old School. You must listen to a lot of the Old School bands. Or at
least it sounds that way. ....

V.Vidavici: Well I do and
I don’t. I listen to Exodus and Destruction and stuff like that. The problem I
have with a lot of the Old School Thrash stuff is the vocals. It’s like you put
on an Over Kill record and the groove or the riff is awesome and then these
vocals come out of nowhere and…it’s just not my thing. It’s like Anthrax. Some
awesome riffs that suck you in and then….no!....

A.Ferentinos: I understand. But that seems to be not only
with the really Old School stuff. That whole thing is coming back.....

V.Vidavici: Good let it.
I doesn’t mean I’m gonna run out and buy it. I’ve heard a lot of bands that are
going that way and that’s cool. That’s what they want to do and obviously there
are a lot of people that want to hear it. I don’t. You know who I think I think
the best Old School vocalists were/are?....

A.Ferentinos: Who?....

V.Vidavici: James
Hetfield and Jeff Becerra from Possessed. Those guys. Well, Possessed you
really can’t call Thrash. The music was, I guess. But those guys were dirty and
powerful without being all cookie monster. There was control and musicality to
their vocals. Those guys were awesome. Jeff still is. James…not so much.....

A.Ferentinos: So
what’s next for Yigael’s Wall?

V.Vidavici: Well we’re
gonna finish what we’re working on now-The Album and EP. Then play some shows
and record our next round. Pretty simple.....

A.Ferentinos:
Anything else you’d like to ad ?

V.Vidavici: Yeah. Stay
true to who you are and what you like or you’ll never be happy. Cheers!....
