Who Gives Kudos:

Thursday, May 03, 2007
I received hundreds and hundreds of of emails and comments today from around the country and even around the world.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate you all reaching out and standing up for me like this. This is amazing. You guys rock.

I'm exhausted. It's been a long day and time to get some sleep, but I encourage you all to continue this discussion here. Together we can work towards a positive outcome to this for all, including the campaign. I'll approve all comments from all viewpoints, but please be courteous. I'll delete anything offensive.

I spoke briefly with the campaign earlier today and encouraged them to consider this situation carefully, and that I think they should apologize. If not to me, at least to the Myspace community.

They've blogged about it on the official site, and although I don't agree with everything they said. I do think they want to work things out.

I'm looking forward to moving on from this.

Thank you all.

After reading about your struggle (thanks to the Drudge Report), I've got to say that I am extremely offended by Obama's camp and their hostile takeover of your MySpace page. I've never been a huge Obama fan to begin with, and unfortunately he only loses points in my book.

It's especially frustrating to me that politics have been on a steady decline, removing the power from the people and placing it into the hands of people who have no more right to it than we do. That such a transfer of power can happen on the Internet, the great bastion of ideas, conversation and discourse, is extremely disconcerting.

I may not align with you politically, but I've got your back. Keep fighting the good fight, pal.

I agree! They may have bungled the whole thing, but they meant only the best for Sen. Obama just like you did when you first started the page!

While you may be very tired and upset right now, I think you might want to tone down the rhetoric on this because Obama is a good candidate for president, no matter what happened between you and his staff. Basically, you are an outsider so there are many things you don't know about this situation, like it or not.

This incident reinforces the old saying, whatever you do "get it in writing", dude! If you'd had a contract then you'd have somewhere to go with this whole thing! It's too bad you and Chris hadn't continued to work together; I don't think things would have gotten this bad because you and he had established a connection. More advice: Don't volunteer over and above your capacity - it only builds resentment - and that goes for everything in life, not just political campaigns. Sorry things went sour for you, and I really hate the bad publicity for Obama - but some would say, "the only BAD publicity is NO publicity" - go figure!

I think Joe is using exactly the right tone of rhetoric, if you want to call it that. For example, from his blog titled, TC from Barack Obama (!!!)

style="font-style: italic;" size="3">"I urge you all to consider this situation carefully. It'll take time for me to work this out and decide if I will personally continue to support Obama, regardless of how I feel about his campaign's handling of this situation.[emphasis added]

It's not right what they did to me and this profile, but it's also wrong to let this change your views of Barack Obama as a candidate. [more emphasis]

After all it was Obama that inspired me to do all this."

And I think Barack did the right thing by calling Joe. His campaign treated Joe like an expendable resource. He treated Joe like a person. That's one of the things I admire about Obama, and the other is his dedication to finding common ground. Joe obviously shares that quality or he would be ranting and raving against Obama now.

It's so damn refreshing to have an issue like this come up, and to have both parties trying to work through it, and do right by each other, even though a mistake (or mistakes) were obviously made. I hope Joe does vote for Obama, but if he doesn't, then I understand (and I want to know who he thinks would be better!).

And once again, Thank you Joe, for taking a stand, and for making us all think about what's right in this situation, and for holding a magnifying glass up to this issue. Yeah, it's gonna put the campaign under pressure, but seeing how they (and Barack) respond to that pressure is exactly what we need to evaluate him as a candidate.

Sorry, but what Obama did was STUPID, and it certainly makes up my mind between him and Hillary. I'm a dedicated Democrat, and was torn between them.

But I'm also a web designer, and this is the lowest of the low. I wouldn't vote for him now for anything...and I intend to make the story as well known as I can. In fact, I found out about it from one of the major search engine optimization newsletters...so it's getting out there.

If they will do this over something as silly as a website/My Space page, then I sure don't trust them to be honest and be for the little guy when it comes to something that's important.

Sorry if that's not what you guys want to hear.

Jan

It sounds rude to say, but it's interesting to see someone who was all hyped up about the far left get brought back to earth by those same people. If everyone would realize that they're ALL politicians trying to serve themselves first, and society second, we might better understand how to deal with them. (them = all politicians, right and left) The good thing is that what serves their personal interests quite often also serves their public interests ... but not always. It's times like this that we see the two in conflict.

Power of the people, my friend. I believe that you should get adequate compensation for the services that you did for this campaign. Sounds like you've got worldwide support, dude. 39,000 would have been a bargain for the Barack team, and I'm simply floored that you didn't get rewaded.

Think about it this way, you've made 160,000+ friends, AND with media coverage, probably millions. The Barack team lost major points in my book. Keep your chin up, dude.
