Liner Notes: "Made in America"
This song began while I was playing with Ableton and generated the percussive string track using my computer keyboard. The lush synth swells and bowed bass sounding track were also Ableton generated, The breakbeat is a commercial loop from Peace Love Productions and I added some crash, splash and ride cymbals manually throughout.
I am in the research stages of writing an epic period novel about the life of immigrant Yorkshire mill owners and workers in the Philadelphia area, spawned by my interest in my own family's genealogy. In the interest of the kind of instant gratification that I can't enjoy while doing research for a book, I dumped a bit of family history into words for the song, concentrating on the men sharing my surname straight back to England and on my mothers grandparents, one from North Ireland and one from Eire proper. I went for double vocals throughout most of the song for a richer sound and the ability to break into harmony at will.
