In downtown Los Angeles, I find myself walking for coffee. Fancy that, "Walking in LA". (Does anyone remember that Missing Persons song? I sang the background parts with Dale Bozzio on a short tour of hers while I was a Berklee student, so I know that song quite well...) "Nobody walks in LA!" or so it goes, but here I am enjoying my strolls. I'm here for a few days for various gigs...Pershing Square for a free outdoor concert...The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano...and tonight I'll be joining Broadway's Eden Espinosa's show at the Ford Theatre. Her concert is entitled "Me". Yes, she named her whole concert after my song, and she sings it and shares with the audience how that song has influenced her. It's an incredible feeling in one's heart to hear of one's songs making their way into the world and into people's hearts and minds...I'm at times incredulous, and just so grateful to still be here making music. Very generously, Eden is introducing me as a special guest of sorts tonight, and I'll sing a couple of my songs... Songs, songs, songs. My legacy that I'll leave. Along with my darling daughter, they will be a lasting bit of me, God willing. I feel a responsibility to the art of divining these songs. It's a tricky matter. One must be pure of heart, looking for truth.  And in that greatness might flow through a sacred cod or perhaps just a decomposing sneaker at the bottom of the psyche. I'm fishing in the mysterious sea of the unconscious; of the Infinite. Hoping and working my way to songs. I'm building them for the next album and plan to be recording in the winter. I am aiming for my album to be out next year. SO, wish me some sparkling fairy dust so that my antennae may attune to the highest frequencies! And I will connect with you on the road, or on the internet. And I will play some of these new songs live, too.......

Until next time, I wish you everything good. Be kind to yourself.....

Funny you should post today. For some reason you were on my mind all day yesterday. I was hoping you were well and missing hearing from you. i don't even know why. I hate pop culture and the whole celebrity thing. You, however, are an enigma to me. When I first caught wind of you in your the great Paula Cole days, I really snubbed you. It wasn't till many years later I really listened to your songs and discovered your beauty and sincerity. I was somewhat humbled at my judging/critical nature...
....It was your last album that bonded me to you. I saw the depth of your sorrow and the disappointment and the struggle for redemption and individuation beyond your ego and persona. A child. illness and failure is a great leveler.....
....Bless you Paula. Your are known.....

What a wonderful way to put it. Mysterious and profound all at the same time. Can't wait to "hear" it when it comes out. Thank you so much for sharing your life, as it helps to makes mine worthwhile, knowing we all share the same joys and burdens in this life ~ through peace, joy and strife. Good luck, Lady! and God Bless. Your friend "in art &music," Catherine Todd

I was mouthing the words and nearly crying when you sang "Me" at the California Midstate Fair last year, you looked directly at me and sang a few lines, I will never forget that, thank you!

How very nicely put Paula, if the new work is as good as Courage, you'll have nothing to fear lyrically or musically - more bossa nova? I suppose whatever the material requires. I take it your copy of Blue is a reissue (1990?). Anyway, peace/out KH

"Me" is such an amazing song, dear one. I can barely make it through the bridge without a knot in my throat. .. I wish you all the inspiration in your endeavor to create a new album. Can't wait to hear it... Miss you and your energy.  Might have to make a trip to one of the coasts to see you since I am stuck in the midwest! Love and light, Kara

Paula, you spoil yourself too much. I look forward to the new songs and to seeing you again in concert.  It is always a moving and unforgettable experience.  Of course your voice and music has touched many people deeply in life changing ways.  You had some really big hits back in the 90's and most people remember them. I just wish people would still follow you now, and know that you are still putting music out and doing shows. I think a lot of people don't know and would be interested. Anyone i have lent your cds to didn't want to give them back and they didn't even know your music before i told them about it.  So i just think getting the word out would help you sell more albums and fill more concerts. But if you don't mind the low key way of doing things, that's good too. I personally think you are a better singer and songwriter than 99% of what is out there now.

Paula, your songs will indeed live forever in the hearts of your listeners. You have moved me. I will never forget the first time I heard your astonishingly beautiful voice back in 1995 at Great Woods in Mansfield, MA. I went there to see Melissa Etheridge and came out of that night with my jaw hanging open from YOUR emotional and passionate performance. Jolene was a standout that day, with you banging on the bass drum and your beat-boxing vocals. Just WOW. I have been a devoted follower of your music ever since.

It was wonderful talking with you last night after the show. I am so glad you found the road back to your true passion. You spread joy and delight to so many and exude happiness from deep within. Welcome back. You have been missed! Keep the fire inside burning...your light and legacy is an eternal flame.

I often joke that "Me" should be my theme song. The words ring very true to me and my experience, how I've felt about myself over the years, how I often hold myself back.  "It's me that is my enemy, me who beats me up, me who makes the monsters, me who strips my confidence..."  Yeah. It's an amazing song, Paula. Real truth there. I'm so impressed with how you managed to create just the right lyrics to speak volumes.

Thank you so much.  :)

Warmest Regards,
Sherry
