Mills on hiatus; Raitt show moved again
Thursday, February 26, 2009
Giving up Lisa Mills for Lent — now there's a lousy idea.
Nonetheless, that's what I'll be doing. And so will all the other fans of one of our most impressive Gulf Coast entertainers.
It was Mills' idea, and at least we can say there's a silver lining.
She recently announced that she would be taking about a month and a half to focus on writing new original material for an album she hopes to record by early summer.
So at least this hiatus will take us a step closer to having a followup to "I'm Changing," the excellent 2005 disc that was Mills' last studio project.
Of that project, I wrote at the time that "I haven't heard an album this year by an artist who asserted his or her individuality more fearlessly. ... Every song on the album is worth naming because, frankly, every one is worth hearing."
Needless to say, expectations are high, and I'm sure the end result will be worth the wait.
And as far as Lenten sacrifice goes, Mills' writing retreat has already been under way a couple of weeks — so we won't have to wait until Easter for relief.
According to the schedule posted at www.lisamills.com, she'll be back in early April with shows in Gulfport and Mobile.
*Thanks, Lawerence! That was a really nice article...Lisa : )
