Back in LA, startin to feel like this is home now with how much time i've spent here in the last 6 months.  I'm still writin, writin, diggin deep for these songs to be great.  This year has been a bit of a writing blur..  traveling from London, to Paris to San Fransisco, to Charleston, to Brooklyn, to New Hampshire to LA.. i've written with friends, with strangers, i think i even got a lyric suggestion from my mom!
Its funny what being cooped up for months focussing on writing will do to a person.. either makes them stronger, or makes them crazy i guess.  For me its done a little of both :)
I've actually been pretty fascinated with the whole creative process these days..  i mean, for me theres really no method.  I sit at the piano, play around for a while, see if something powerful strikes, and if it does, i go with it, but if it doesnt i walk away for a while.  My favorite thing to do is have the tv on..  hopefully with some heavy movie playing, like green mile or something (green mile?, really brendan), let my mind get carried away, then during the commercials mute it and sit at my piano or keyboard.  Weird right?  i know.  just what i do.
And a lot of lyrics come when i get out in nature or when i'm on an airplane for more than 3 hours, or riding a motorcycle..  oh, and definitely in the shower, who doesnt sing in the shower.   its a crazy process though, just finding that perfect word to rhyme with potato or whatever else i need it to, or that perfect chord.. can take days for me. (btw, next single: 'potato love')
Anyway. all i'm tryin to say is that songwriting is an amazing process- sometimes you love it, other times you wanna run it over in your hummer.  (no, of course i dont drive a hummer)
well, miss you guys and wanna say a quick hello and thanks for stickin by while i write this album.  I'll wrap it up as soon as i can, and get my ass back on the road.
oh, and hope you like my new page..  thought it was time for a facelift.

Love it.
So I loved your recommendation of The Prophet, and this blog reminded me of this book I'm reading that I thought you'd love.
It's called The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. If you've never heard of it before, you have to read it. It'll help you find inspiration like no other. I've been a writing fiend since starting. Seriously, it has my highest recommendation.
Anyway, good to hear from you! Can't wait to hear the fruit of your labor.
