The band's trademark organic sounds and lush orchestrations exude a reflective melancholy, paired with rollicking tunes and madcap gypsy strings. Their latest album HOME IMPROVEMENTS combines classic Cake chamber pop tunes with airs of contemplation, pondering life, love and loss, imbued with the Cake's irrepressible charm and wit.
The song PENTECOSTAL GIRL, a winsome comical childhood romance moulded into some of the sweetest pop in the Cake repertoire, was censored by the good folks from Kerri-Anne Kennerley's TV show earlier in the year. Despite this, the band has received mail from a number of Pentecostal girls since the song was released, including lyric requests from the Woodlawn Church in Columbia, Mississippi. Come along to hear the unexpurgated version, and join in the fun.
