  Artist: ÓLAFUR ARNALDS
  Title:  Eulogy for Evolution
  Label: Erased Tapes

Format:  Digipack CD plus/ Free Digital Compilation

  Catalog : ERATP4CD

* Iceland's best new export comes in the shape of Eulogy For Evolution!

* If you thought Sigur Rós had the patent on hauntingly beautiful and meticulously compelling music coming out of Iceland, then Ólafur Arnalds is here to educate you otherwise. - Eulogy For Evolution is perhaps this years most hauntingly emotive sounding experience.

* This Edition also incl. FREE Digital Compilation "Erased Tapes Collection 1 (11 tracks in total). Feat. 'Fok' from the follow-up EP 'Variations of Station'of ÓLAFUR ARNALDS.

Icelandic composer and multi-instrumentalist Olafur Arnalds is bound to find himself met with comparisons to his fellow countryman Johann Johannsson: Arnalds' highly cinematic approach has that same instantly digestible quality that Johannsson, and for that matter Max Richter, are able to tap into. After its initial string swells, the sweetly sorrowful opener '0040' starts to sound vaguely reminiscent of the mournful piano music at the end of the '70s Incredible Hulk movies, and that certainly isn't intended as a jibe, it's lovely stuff, if rather dramatised. The ensuing pieces maintain this wistful, downbeat sound, riffing on various permutations of string and piano arrangement, only for Arnalds to whip the rug from under your feet with the brash guitar distortion of closer '3704/3837' which features some seriously histrionic quiet-loud post-rock action, only for all the drums and fuzz to crumble away abruptly for the lonesome, organ-fuelled coda. Gorgeous.

  Artist: ÓLAFUR ARNALDS
  Title:  Variations of Static
  Label: Erased Tapes

Format:  Digipack CD plus/ Free Digital Compilation

  Catalog : ERATP8CD

* This Edition also incl. FREE Digital Compilation "Erased Tapes Collection 1 (11 tracks in total). Feat. 3055 of ÓLAFUR ARNALDS.

Sounding unreasonably mature for a 21-year old composer, Olafur Arnalds has already got one well-received album behind him (Eulogy For Evolution), and this follow-up EP can only add to his growing reputation. It'd be all too easy to compare Arnalds with fellow Icelanders Nico Muhly and Johann Johannssonn, so that's precisely what I'll do: in general there's a sense of very tangible, heartstring-tugging romance common to the work of all three (and for that matter Max Richter) but to be more specific, the weary, bereft-sounding intonation of a computer voice runs throughout the course of the record, something directly reminiscent of the singing CPU on Johannsson's Englaborn - no bad thing to be associated with. Beyond that, Arnalds supplies ample evidence of great things to come, and given how emotive and grandly melancholic these compositions are, you might earmark him as a future superstar of film scoring - indeed, Zbigniew Preisner is bound to be another name that springs to mind listening to these skilfully fashioned miniatures. In addition to the strings and pianos that form the foundations of his sound, Arnalds isn't afraid to embrace more contemporary instrumentation: a careful, sparing use of micro-beats further assists the young composer in the establishment of a distinct voice within the community of current neo-romantic composers, within which he should surely be regarded as a rising talent. Utterly lovely

  Artist: THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE
Title:  Chapter One : A Long Way From Home
  Label: Erased Tapes

  Format:  Digipack CD

  Catalog : ERATP6CD

The British Expeditionary Force bring to mind the sweet Scandinavian sounds of Efterklang or Mum. This is pop music, reframed and re-imagined as electronica, and taking influence from the muddy mire of indie music on the way, so it's not hard to work out that the two members of the band are old hands at production. In the red corner we have Justin Lockey, founder member of Mycodenameis:Milo and producer of such beastly projects as Enter Shikari among other things, and in the blue corner vocalist Aid Burrows, better known as the frontman of Fierce Panda band My Architects. The music featured on 'Chapter One : A Long Way From Home' is the most unusual to ever come from this camp. It's indie music for people who want a little more for their money, pop music for people getting bored with pop or electronica for those of you who don't mind some vocals slapped about over the glitches and pads, and somehow it works. While the record isn't totally successful it leaves you with a warm glow, perfect for this time of year I'd say...

  Artist: NASUNO MITSURU

  Title:  Prequel October 1998 - March 1999 + 1
  Label: Doubt

  Format:  Digipack CD

  Catalog : DMF121

This is the first CD of Nasuno Mitsuru a.k.a. "Groove Master", top bass player of Tokyo underground music field. The years for the recordings are from 1998 to 1999 as the title. M3 & M4 were included in "Improvised Music from Japan" 10CD set, this "Prequel.." CD is a kind of complete version. All tunes are composed / improvised / effected experimentally but we can feel a kind of mellowness, tenderness, humor, etc. Here it is singular work. Also note remarkable style of each collaborated musician (indicated song listing). The last tune, bonus track (+1) is the demo, suggest his next work.
