In Virginia there is an old saying, “if you wait a few weeks, there will be another election.” Last night I attended the Arlington County Democratic Committee monthly meeting to hear candidates speak about why they were running for office and what they wanted to accomplish in the Commonwealth during the next legislative session beginning in 2010.

Two of the candidates for Governor spoke along with one of the Lt. Governor candidates. More interestingly, four young activists running for a newly opened House of Delegates seat addressed the ACDC. (Unfortunately I didn’t have the correct setting on my camera, so only a couple of pictures came out.) It was great to hear the enthusiasm and new ideas the candidates proposed on policy topics as varied as clean energy standards, off shore drilling (against), budget cutback strategies and job creation tactics amidst a ferocious recession.

I am sure that in your neighborhood the same thing is going on:  young people stepping up to the plate to change America by winning elections and directing public policy as a formulator, not a petitioner.  Let us know about the up and coming political activists in your area.  We’ll find them, speak with them and then feature their activities in our new 21st Century Democrats at Work program rolling out later this month.
