Yo computer people-

I just have to share my feelings with you. I've been spending a lot of my time lately trying to get myself up to date on the various websites where I've posted my music. You see, I just released a 'lil EP named Energy, and I want folks to know about it. And of course the best way to let 'em know is through the wild wonderful world of the web. Problem is, I'm just not that computer savvy. It takes me so long to weed through all the tech aspects of this, that I forget what I'm doing it for- the music!

While I love the fact that this medium exists, I can't help but get frustrated by the fact that you almost never get to speak with anyone directly, and that its sometimes hard to know the aim of some web-based businesses in this ever-changing musical landscape. Its nice to assume that most of these music based portals are there just to share music, ideas, etc. But really now, nothing's free in this world, and unless there's a way to generate revenue, these 'free' services will go away. So, I constantly find myself asking 'what is their angle? How are they getting paid?!' And to that end I'd like to see more transparency. But I suppose its every business' goal to make you think you're getting something for nothing, even if we're constantly told otherwise. Sorry if this all sounds a little nebulous- my head hurts:)

But as long as I'm trying to update my sites and infiltrate the digital music domain, I might as well ask: What's your favorite site for music on the net? Where do you like to listen, download or discover music? I'm just curious, since I'm spending an inordinate amount of time trying to get my stuff out there, it would be nice to hear some ideas on where you think it may be worth my while.

And of course, Happy Holidays! I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a rockin' New Years Eve.

Peace,
jk

I like iTunes just because it's easy. I would order a CD if it were priced similarly just because if I were to put it on an MP3 player, I'd want it at a higher quality bit rate than Apple allows. I though the new stuff was coming Jan 1?? Either way... Let us know when/where, and I'll buy it!!! Your stuff rocks!! Idol American is my #1 album in my playlist.

Pandora is a good site to help get your music out and discovered, other than word of mouth on myspace.

Ack! Posted to early.
That's (last. fm) where I first heard you.
Amazon. com is where I buy my music now. DRM free and higher bitrate, better price, too.

Purevolume and allmusicguide...
I also use a lot of podcasts to find out about new music. I especially like the indiefeed podcasts and the MPR song of the day podcast, but there are quit a few I check out.

If you have the funds available it may be time to consider hiring a digital music marketing company to promote your material from Energy to the various websites and podcasts getting a higher profile look. There's quite a few that have popped up from individuals with their own company to indie companies to large firms that specialize specifically in internet-based marketing. I'd suggest DMM (Digital Music Marketing) as a place to start the search if that is indeed something you're interested in possibly pursuing. Getting a song highlighted on multiple podcasts and and acquiring banner ads/featured placements on everything from Purevolume to iTunes goes a very long ways with today's web-based music buying public.

Thanks for sharing. All good ideas on places to get your musical fix. I haven't heard of Pandora- need to check that out.
Last. fm seems to be really cool- super user friendly, until you're trying to get your new record heard:( To that end, I think I may have to get serious about the online promo companies Kurt mentioned. Ah, how quickly the internet turns from 'free to fee.

Didn't read the other responses before I click comment.., but in case no one else said it.., http://www. imeem. com/edeninthedesert is a good site.., allows you to integrate videos and music all on one page. I don't have videos on mine, but click through my friends to Matt Morris and you'll see the depth of what's possible. Don't be afraid of the digital landscape.., do what you're doing.., ASK, and the doors will open. (BTW, got your comment on my page, only, in case there was another.

Personally, I like Pandora.
But if we had a few live gigs, I'd be dragging my friends, family and the dogs to the shows. So, how about a tour instead?

Hi Jeremy, I'm a long time fan of yours from lodestone to your latest. When I look for music on the internet I use Amazon.com. It's easy and safe and I can instantly have listen without having to steel it.

I'm hoping to see some live performances from you again
Thanks,
Brian
