I recorded a rough demo for a tune called "It's All Timing" earlier this year, and about a month ago I actually recorded the guitar and vocal parts. Last night I wanted to add some drums so I grabbed all of the studio gear I had lugged upstairs back down into the original studio and mic'd the drum kit.

After about 10 takes I ended up with two good recordings that I combined to make the final drum track you hear in the new version. With a bit more polishing, and maybe a lead guitar part I think this song will be done!

One of my drawbacks is that I'm a major procrastinator, and I've been trying to overcome that. I always tend to delay recording because I worry about getting the sound quality just right. Maybe subconsciously I try to avoid the possibility that I'll end up being unhappy with what I've recorded.

Last night I seriously just plopped the mics in front of the drums quickly, and dialed in some rough levels and eq settings on my mixer, then recorded. Sometimes I guess it pays to be spontaneous. I'll have to remember this for my next songs.
