Peeeps. There is no way to get to know someone like there is when you are riding out a hurricane with em! The first was Gustav, which cut power, dropped a hotel sign on grandma's car, and made for some stinky ass refrigerator clean outs! Then there was Ike... more flooding in low lying areas of south Louisiana than the prior Gustav, more levees broken than any hurricane in 3 years down here, and more increases in fuel price per minute than I've seen in 4 years of touring. Ike was OK for the Sons because we rode it out together on a successful trip to NYC... I say successful not because we sold out our show or because the band played better than ever with our good friend Jefferson Crow sitting in ..s, but for the sole reason that in all these years of traveling around in the 15 passenger, this was the 1'st time that New York City issued us NO F-ING PARKING TICKET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wee Hoo. Seriously a great success for the Sons.

The drive home from the Big Apple was quite a hike but gave us some time to reflect on the current state of South Louisiana and how directly the Gulf Coast affects the rest of the country. We're losing our land, our culture, seafood, wildlife, as well as everyone's gas and oil. We love our home and are proud of where we are from... It's one of the most unique places on earth. Every September / October is going to be dangerous, but if more folks in the government paid attention to coastal erosion and restoration, the whole nation would benefit! Please visit Voice of the Wetlands on-line that the Sons and a crew of Louisiana artists support. We love y'all. See you out on the road soon.
