When we arrived at the Halifax airport last week, we were met by a volunteer who suggested we go skinny-dipping on the way to Lunenburg. And that pretty much set the wonderful tone of the whole weekend. Our billet hosts Charlotte & Russel plied us with talk and fudge, Bob drove us around, the sound teks were brilliant, the after-parties came complete with mussels and corn on the cob, and so we were free to just play music. Our highlight was a workshop called "Cultural Connections" with Asani (First Nations singers from Alberta) and the Pacific Curls, from New Zealand, two of them Maori. Imagine, nine women on stage! And they were such fine instrumentalists and singers, with such tight and intriguing arrangements. It was truly an honour to be up there with them. We finished with a weird and wonderful jam.
Saweay took loads of photos & video but I don't have them yet--I have however posted one video of us playing on the wharf against a backdrop of ships.
Ciao, Laura.
