Yesterday was just extraordinary...almost like being in a dream. Everyone at the University was so kind and hospitable, I almost had to pinch myself.  They gave me a gift of the most beautiful cashmere scarf, in the tartan of Edinburgh University. I didn’t even know there was such a thing...now I’m wearing it with pride!!
I thought it would be nice to share with you some footage of a presentation I gave last year at the Global Philanthropy Forum.  For those of you who don't already know, I hope  this footage will allow you an insight into what motivates my activism, particularly my ongoing work with with HIV and AIDS issues.

Annie, if you ever feel so inclined, I would love to see you blog about Scotland sometime.  Not its politics and all that, but the Scotland part of you

I think it's a very interesting facet of your narrative that you come from this place with its uniquely proud history & culture, with its beautiful, cold, wet environs. As an artist, you spend your life communicating your take on the world within and without, and it seems to me that this place that made you has to add its own character to the Annie Lennox filter on the world.  Like seeing through rain....

No matter when we leave, I think the imprint of "home" stays with us. Scotland has undoubtedly given you so much more than your soft burr and an honorary degree or two.  I'd love to read about it sometime.

I agree. And I like how you explained the genocide connection, showed Avelile's progress, and the role of the HIV positive T shirt.  And especially how people need to be reached emotionally on this issue, as well as intellectually informed. Also, the usefulness of short films -- the Sing YouTube page is very good for that btw.

Love the way you've been doing my favorite Neil Young song lately....

Annie, you look great in the cap n' gown...congrats to you!!  I watched the footage again...good to see your presentation and your singing performance at the end.  You are the real deal and your passion shows when you speak about the SING Campaign and the Hiv/Aids crisis.  More people need to be aware and see your short films...it opened my eyes!!  Keep fighting the good fight...stay strong.  See you soon in NYC!!  SueNY :)

I just watched that video...it's always pleasing to watch and listen to you, such a serious subject as AIDS and still, at the right place, with humour in it.

I have added the "Let's make a difference" in your SING Campaign picture... would also an idea to put on a Tshirt...

Y'know, sometimes words fail me when I need them the most.  I read this yesterday.. and was SO moved- but could not come up with anything appropriately articulate to describe exactly how excited, proud, relieved, grateful.. etc... that I happen to be about your success.  Soooo, I'm popping back in to give it a try now.  For the past few months, I have found myself a bit "at odds" with all the various "world happenings" (here is a grand example: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/8312447.stm); simply wrung out like an old cleaning rag.. pondering mightily "WHERE have all the good people gone?".  Then.. I read your past few blogs.  Like rays of sunshine for my very heart and soul!  I mean, I can remember so many times in my past, where I wished that I could have just been able to speak with you, to encourage you.. to be able to let you know how very much your music- and your "essence of BEing" meant to me.  Seems that all these "Thousand Wonderful Thing(k)s" that are happening are the universe's way of merely affirming to you what I (and obviously many others, too!) have firmly believed for a long time.  You are deserving of these accolades- and I am (yet again) predicting this ain't the end of them, either! Thank YOU.. for persevering.. dreaming.. and making it all happen.  AND? For making it possible to "take others along for the ride" as well.  I quite admire your commitment to making this planet a kinder place for humanity- and a sincere "Namaste" to you.  Oh yeah.. and a heaping handful of "Happy Sparkle Thoughts" too!!

Thanks Annie... You inspire us all to do our bit however small in comparison it may feel to us. When I went to Kenya a number of years ago I took hundreds of pencils. We stopped and handed them out to all the kids we went past. It was so moving because to them it was like I'd just handed them a mountain bike, their faces lit up so much. I'll never forget that.

I hope my contributions help the cause for you. Wishing you increased vitality. Have a great day.

Dear Annie,

You are so right about South Africa and the pandemic. There's a serious issue of disinformation down there and grass roots misunderstanding of the causes of Aids and HIV. It's an issue close to my and my wife's heart who grew up there. It's such a tragic situation and your raising of the issues are incalculable. The last time we were down there the statistics alarmed us so much. We want to make a difference. We have very little money to give but we do have voices and visual / musical creative force.

Your movie is so moving. Thank you a million times for your efforts...

Well done Annie.  I've just watched the video on the blog following this one of you receiving your award at Edinburgh University. For some reason the link to your Global presentation given last year (featured in this blog) will open, but not run. Have tried several things over the last couple of days to no avail.  No matter.  I've seen you give several talks and I am sure this was just as passionate as the others.

If we had more people in the world like you, it would certainly be a better place.

Congratulations once again dear - well deserved recognition.

I GOT IT!!  It took a while but I watched your presentation via You Tube.  Some parts of the audio were out of sync which was funny in itself but I got there in the end.
I don't have any media contacts here in Australia, unfortunately for you, but it would be very worthwhile running this on television here.  The ABC and probably SBS would run it, but the audiences on these two channels are narrower.  Commercial stations would get a broader audience but then they have to pay the bills by running ads, so don't know what their interest would be.  Certainly Australia needs to be more aware of what is happening in the greater world. We get loads of coverage on where our troops are serving but very little on AIDS pandemics.

Our Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is more global that John Howard was, but we are but a speck in the universe and no one outside Australia is waking up wondering what is going on here.  George Negus and his program Dateline would possibly run this on SBS, but it's the commercial channels that have the wider audience - sad but true.  We might be a more affluent country in many respects, but our vision about issues such as you are addressing is narrower and at this point I don't have an answer on how we can change that.  Our influence in terms of commercial  television is largely American which we need to turn around, but commercial television, while having a wider audience, is only interested in what can generate money for them.

However, your presentation moved me - as your presentations always do and I will keep supporting you through SING and talking to people I come across.  xx
