Vorpal Space Gallery Presents: "Circus & Abstractions," paintings by Jonas Nash



PORTLAND—in July, Vorpal Space will present " "Circus & Abstractions" a series of paintings by Portland area artist Jonas Nash. The public opening and reception will be on First Thursday, July 5th, from 6pm-10pm. Normal gallery hours are by appointment. Many abstract surreal painters' work is dull and muted. Not so with the work of Jonas Nash. His paintings are vivid and vibrant. His jagged and angular brush work is a fierce, almost violent attack on the canvas. Yet, he is a surrealist -- forms and images emerge from a swirl of activity -- a nightmare tableau of circus imagery, inspired by his years working as a professional rigger for some of the best touring circuses on the world.

Jonas Nash has been painting since 1987, and he has shown his work since 1993, including shows in Phoenix, Melbourne, Reno, and Portland. A prolific artist, Mr. Nash has participated in over 20 art shows in Portland since 2000. In addition to his work as a painter, Jonas Nash is one of the old pros of Portland's circus community and has recently returned to our fair city after an extended tour with Cirque du Soleil.
