Vorpal Space Gallery Presents: "Pin-Up Propaganda" Paintings by Jacquelyn Bond

PORTLAND—in August, Vorpal Space will present "Pin-Up Propaganda" a series of watercolor paintings by Portland artist Jacquelyn Bond. The public opening and reception will be on First Thursday, August 2nd, from 6pm-10pm. Normal gallery hours are by appointment. Further gallery information is available on the gallery website: www.vorpalspace.com

If Alberto Vargas had been transported 50 years into the future and started doing political propaganda posters for a 3rd party critical of both sides, his work might just look like Jacquelyn Bond's. In her fusing of politics and vintage-style sex appeal, Ms. Bond has created a collection of compelling images which are both serious and fun. Lady Liberty has never looked so good. Nor elephants and donkeys so ugly by contrast.

You would never guess it by looking at her images, but this August show at Vorpal Space is Jacquelyn Bond's first solo art show. While not formally schooled, she spent years creating images for clothing -- some of her tee-shirts were popular enough to be bootlegged and distributed internationally. More of her work can be seen at www.jacquelynbond.com .
