Current mood:  satisfied
Category: Life

Today or tomorrow is Sept 11 (depending on where you are) - a day of sombre remembrance across the entire world. It remains the most heinous act of terrorism in human history, as everyone knows.

I am sure everyone will pause to reflect on this day in their own way - I know I will. Like everyone, I remember the day only too well - I was having lunch in a pub in Edinburgh, Scotland and I watched the second tower get hit live on TV.

So it's six years later and I'm asking myself  - what was the fallout from September 11? There were a lot of victims. Obviously the people who suffered the most were the families of those who perished, and the many thousands whow were injured. New York City suffered terribly as well. The American people have had their freedoms and civil liberties drastically curtailed.

But I'd like to point out some other victims - the members of the Muslim faith. Since that dreadful day, Muslims have had to carry the collective guilt for this act, and have lived in the shadow of the calamity. Even today they are mistrusted throughout much of the western world.

Which brings me to my central point of the blog - Muslims did NOT perpetrate 9/11.

9/11 was perpetrated by "evil fuckwits".

What is a fuckwit? Well Americans might use the term "fucktard" but it means the same thing. Fuckwits are people who simply have absolutely no clue as to what is important in life. They seek satisfaction through causing disruption to others. This disruption can be annoying, or it can be fatal.

Now what is important to understand is that being a fuckwit takes precedence over affiliation with any other social or ethnic group. David Koresh did not represent the "Christian" community - he represented the "fuckwit" community. Michael Vick does not represent African-Americans, he represents "fuckwits".

There are at least two kinds of "fuckwit" in the world - "annoying fuckwits" and "evil fuckwits".

"Annoying fuckwits" are the most common. These are people who derive enjoyment out of irritating people. Annoying fuckwits positively abound on MySpace as well, sadly. Damn Girl is dealing with one right now in her blogs. Coqueto went through a different but equally annoying hassle a few weeks back. I've not been spared - a fuckwit recently emailed a bunch of people I met in the USA to tell them I was lying about being single and that I actually had a wife (!).

Annoying fuckwits send out spam. They leave shopping carts in the middle of parking lots, and lie about themselves on dating sites. Fuckwits cheat on their wives/girlfriends and try to interfere with the happiness of others. Fuckwits spread conspiracy theories about events like the moon landing and 9/11. They are the bane of society. But they are basically just trouble-makers and not truly evil.

"Evil fuckwits" are those that seek to really harm others. When they are white and middle-class (like Timothy McVeigh) we regard them as simply a evil person.

But when they come from a minority group, it is all too easy to forget that they are (first and foremost) fuckwits and push the blame on their minority. In Australia we had a bad case where a small group of Lebanese men gang-raped several girls. A lot of anger was targeted at the Lebanese community as a result. Many people across the world felt anger at the Muslim community for 9/11.

I can tell you something from direct experience - Muslims are fine people. I've worked in several predominantly Muslim countries like Pakistan, Malaysia and Indonesia and had a fantastic time. Muslims are no different to any other kind of people - they mainly want to get through life happily and raise their families. Blaming Muslims for 9/11 is like blaming Christians for the Holocaust.

Now sure, some fuckwits straddle the definition and it's hard to tell if they are merely annoying or truly evil. And to make things worse, fuckwits can form associations of their own. When they get guns and march around in right-wing militias, or join the Neo-Nazis or the KKK, then they are a "fuckwit collective". And groups like these ones I have mentioned don't represent "White America" any more than the Crips represent "black America" or cuban drug gangs represent Hispanics.

So if you need any more proof that 9/11 was perpetrated by genuine fuckwits, then just consider the fact that the people they supposedly represented (the Muslim world) have suffered as a result more than just about any other community (except for those who suffered directly and personally, obviously).

So I urge you - learn to identify the hallmark signs of a fuckwit. Once you recognise one, practice the fine art of "fucking them off out of your life". If you are dating a fuckwit - don't try and fix them. They're broken. Just get rid of them. Better to spend your time ironing out the wrinkles that they may have caused in your life or in the lives of those who matter to you (which is - sadly - what I am having to do right now after my own brush with fuckwit-ism).

And if YOU are a fuckwit, then always remember that being a fuckwit is now your defining trait. Once you have entered that world, you can no longer represent your people, your culture, your gender or your race anymore. You are now, fundamentally, a fuckwit.

I heartily embrace the laws which give rights to women, to the disabled, to ethnic and religious minorities, and to the genuinely disadavantaged in our western societies.

But I don't think we should be prevented from discriminating against fuckwits. So if they ever free up the laws to permit open season on these idiots, then let the party begin.

So tell me - what sort of fuckwit annoys you?
I'm also curious to hear what other people were doing on Sept 11.
And if you can't think of anything to say, just send a shout out to the boys/gals in the Fire, Police and Ambulance departments, and also the Military. This is a day where we should remember and pay homage to them as well.

That's probably because no-one knows what it means either (it's the cry of a child).

I'd say anyone who judges someone or makes assumptions about someone until they know all the facts is a fuckwit.

Good blog entry.....though categorizing Vick with Koresh was a bit harsh on Vick...

True... I was just trying to make the point that fuckwits do not represent their community.

Maybe I should have used Jim Bakker instead of Koresh as an example of fuckwit Christians.

But Vick is still a fuckwit.

Unfortunately, sociopaths wreak havoc just because they can, they lack any sense of moral responsibilty or conscience.

I'm not sure which terrifies me the most, people that hurt people because of 'a cause' or people that do it just because they take some perverse pleasure hurting others. Obviously, those that perpetrate terrorist acts are in a different league entirely but make no mistake, people that fuck with others lives for fun are sociopaths.

My hearts goes out to all those affected by the September 11 attacks.

I can't stand when people use words like all, always, every and never to describe people or situations. I can't think of any time any of those words could be used to describe a group of people. grouping them and saying all, always, every and never is ignorant.

" all muslims do that."
" they always act like that"
" every american thinks that"
" they will never change"

arg I hate those words used like that

I agree with you Manning. Muslims are for the most part good people. Unfortunately for them there is about 1.5 billion muslims in the world & if even .01 percent of them are bad it reflects on them as a whole & is quite a large amount. All religions have had their share of terrorist sometime in history. It seems to me that the people in charge all over the world are the real problems. For the most part the average person does not want war or to screw others over. It seems that the worst of our species get into politics or become dictators. It is really getting hard to figure out what to do anymore.

On september 11, i had just woken up in my bedroom in Ultimo in Sydney to my cousin/housemates calls to come and watch the damn tv, i was standing on the stairs in my nightie about to tell her what for and saw the replay of what had happened, at first I couldnt beleive my eyes...

september 11th i put a movie in for all my classes and stayed online with my best friend. he had just gone through a divorce and his wife was in tower 2.

it was horrible. 'i dont like her, but i would never wish this upon anyone, no matter what they did to me.' luckily, a few days later, we found out she was able to escape.

my thoughts were also with another friend of mine who is in the special forces and was at that time in Afghanistan. he also is okay. later things directly dealing with 9/11... i have had a couple of students who lived near there or lost parents there. my choir was touring in NY a couple of years ago, and it is truly hallowed ground. the spirit around Ground Zero is amazing, awe-ful and sobering.

thank you manning... this was beautiful.

And referencing a previous blog - contrition and remorse play a part.

* Do something stupid - be embarrassed and learn from it if you've hurt no one but yourself, apolgise (and mean it) if you've hurt someone else

* Do something stupid and revel in it - grade A fuckwit material

* Do something stupid and be ignorant of its impact - I guess that's a grey area...

Life is Awesome!

Greetings Mr. Manning,

I must say that although I agree with your comment that the Muslims, in and of themselves, did not perpetrate 9/11 there has been an undercurrent for quite sometime within their community that gave rise to the tragic events. I sincerely sympathize with the burden they are being forced to carry due to the senseless actions of a few miserable bastards. However I believe that the world would be less critical and judgemental on the Muslim population if there was more of a denial and disapproval of Al-Qaeda and other radicals ways and preachings on a large scale. Not just the local Imam frowning on camera and then indirectly asking one to understand the difficulties of being a Muslim in a Western World.

I whole heartedly support ones right to believe and worship in whatever way they so choose but I will not accept that one religion is superior to another. It is just so ironic that millions of people, thru out time, have been killed in the name of a God that none have ever seen, touched, or spoken to yet profess to the death to know what he really expects from us down here. Interesting!!

The muslim community is highly critical of al-qaeda from what I have seen. It doesn't get much coverage unfortunately. Some radical cleric shouting anti-west slogans makes a far better segment on the news.

Most white christians are highly critical of the KKK, but that doesn't get much press either.

Great blog. I think it should always be open season on fuckwits. Which would thin down the population in my area -- including a few relatives.
I always get goosebumps when reading or thinking about 9/11. Even though I didn't know anyone personally affected, it affected each and every one of us in one way or another. It's a time to remember those who lost their lives AND to celebrate the great freedoms we have because of those willing to put their lives on the line in public service & the military.

Well I hope you don't think that I am a fucktard. I am simply expressing my freedom of speech. And as for the 9/11 tragedy; it was a very sad day and always will be. I have friends whose birthdays are on that day and they can't even celebrate that day anymore. I have to agree with you 100% when you say the muslums didn't do it. The ones responsable for it is the US goverment. They had been doing a drill for the same thing at the same time so everyone was told to stand down because it was "just a drill" when it was actually taking place. The same thing happened on 7/7 at the metro station. You can think I am crazy or you can go look it up for yourself and learn the truth! www.prisonplanet.com or www.infowars.com

I was online at a stockmarket forum - I know guys in Australia who trade the US markets - and one of them posted about something having spooked the markets because of a sudden drop in prices, and did anyone know what. Then someone else posted about a plane hitting one of the towers and they were watching it on CNN.

I went outside and put CNN on and at that point they were still unsure of details, what type of plane, accident or otherwise etc. Then shortly after I had turned it on I noticed smoke coming from both towers in the footage. That's when my stomach dropped, the blood drained away and I shivered with a cold chill through my body - two was not an accident. I called my parents and woke them up, called my brother, then called my neighbour - I ended up spending about an hour on the phone with her talking about it as we watched the towers collapse. I think it was about 4am I went to bed that night.

On a lighter note - the type of everyday fuckwit that annoys me: people who don't understand the meaning of "keep left unless overtaking"

Fucktard is a personal favorite word of mine :)

As for my whereabouts, I was working and all I could think about was being with my son, who was just about 5 months old. The experience of watching what was going on at the WTC, and what those people were going through, made me realize that I had something precious that I'd hate to lose also.

They're also coming out with reports that the first wave of workers at ground zero are suffering devastaing respiratory problems... all because our government "probably" didn't give effective warnings about the quality of air they were breathing. Of course our government is skirting the blame as usual- no one ever likes to be responsible.

On 9/11 to the whole world it did cost
For our freedom did suffer from this day
And left us with a feeling of dismay
I honour the heroes who risked their lives
To save so many husbands and wives
Life will go on and wounds can heal
My hope is that you , can regain your zeal
Block out the hate and let love back in

It does not matter what color your skin is or what religion you belive in.............there are true idiots in each facet of society..................or Fuckwits if you would. Unfortunately, we as a whole get a little "fuckwitted" when we blame a community or race for the actions of a few.

I saw the what-wuzzeye-doing ref too late. I must have got on a bus to Minneapolis about the time the first plane hit; got to Mpls, going through skyway, heard lady mentioning an airplane crashing into...and then we walked to this commons area that had a TV screen that was...2 stories high, approximately. It's not like the Times Square Jumbotron, but it was a real stop-almost-immediately moment; there were probably 50-60 other people standing there, staring.
I had a hard time getting home on the buses; I was on one that was so full, no other riders could squeeze on. Then I heard people talking about how Minnesota sate employees were being told to go home-YOW! I was headed mfor downtown St Paul, where tens of thousands of said employees would be crowding the streets. I left that bus, took a couple of less traveled routes, walked the last mile along some railroad tracks (I grew up here; this is a warning: at the corner of 6th Street and Robert St. is 400 Robert St.-abandon hope if you don't already know where you're going). Got home, watched footage of the collapse, figured it was terrorists, didn't turn on TV for the rest of the week.
