New York artist Katelan Foisy and Detroit photographer DVS have come together to support the rise against a tragedy that befalls hundreds of thousands of women across the country and around the world...domestic violence.  Inspired by DVS' photograph "Sacred Heart", Katelan created a wonderful painting entitled "Nico Elise II" (below) which is now in exhibition at the Femina Potens gallery in San Francisco.  Within the spirit of its feminine divine essence, both artists have decided to donate 100% of their proceeds to two shelters for battered women, Looking for My Sister in Detroit and RAINN in New York, in the sincere hope that this small gesture will help those greatly in need.

(From the Family Violence Prevention Fund)

Prevalence of Domestic Violence

  • Estimates range from 960,000 incidents of violence against a current or former spouse, boyfriend, or girlfriend per year1 to three million women who are physically abused by their husband or boyfriend per year.
  • Around the world, at least one in every three women has been beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused during her lifetime.
  • Thirty percent of Americans say they know a woman who has been physically abused by her husband or boyfriend in the past year.

And this is unfortunately just the beginning of the list.

The original painting is available for purchase on the Femina Potens website, but also please look into your own areas for local shelters to see how you can help.

We thank you sincerely,

Katelan and DVS

As a survivor of domestic violence I solute you for doing this. I'm going to be doing a series on child abuse soon. (But I think you already know something about that from the MM craziness.
)

Kudos to all involved.

yes it is a great cause!! However, sexual as well as voilence aginsed woman is one crime to many women let there abusers get away with far to often. Women suffer lack of self worth helplessness and let the abuse contune. In most cases this kind of abuse started much younger. And continued into adulthood. Education at elemantery level is the key. To helping these young girls as woman learn that love is not a slap it is not taking there innocents away. By adult hood the scares and anger thy bare is horrable. Alomst all woman who leave ther abusers return do to lack of funding for these woman 2 learn or have a place 2 go so they can relize they can have gainful inploment and dont have to go back. Still i wonding as i read ware is the part about the woman who suffer emotional abuse? Starts as a young child and continuses. I am a suerver of this. I bare scares u can not see. Yet it is same anger, lowselfworth. And same amount of woman go back. ..i would be intrested in stastic on women like me we all suffer?
