Glen from Spaghetti Cake and High Adventure here - I wanted to briefly share my thoughts with you on the Indy IV DVD;

Having now watched the DVD already several times, I have to say that it continues to get better and better with each viewing, just like the 4 times that I saw it in the theater. With each viewing, I continue to notice slight nuances that I hadn't picked up ... Especially after watching all of the special features on Disc 2, I found an even deeper appreciation for the artistry that went into the making of the film. The thing that I want to touch upon that surprisingly hasn't been discussed that much yet is the quality of Harrison Ford's acting. It is obvious that he deeply cares about the character of Indy. The delivery of his lines and the looks upon his face are wonderful. An older, wiser Indy, and yet still giddy as a schoolboy when the situation deems it necessary. One of the lines that had to grow on me was when he holds the Crystal Skull up to Mutt and says "What IS this thing?". Even Indy himself doesn't fully understand what he's been searching for! His eyes and face tell a tale of boyish wonder and amazement. I really enjoy all the new faces of older Indy, from his fatherly concern for Mutt, to his caring for the love of his life Marion, to his genuine concern for his students, to his appreciation for the study and research of applied archeology. The character is genuine and warm, more so than in any of the other 3 films. And he still knows how to kick butt and take a beating with charm and appeal. So kudos to Harrison for a job very well done! In addition, I have really been warming up to the brilliant new score from John Williams, who after all of his accomplishments, has managed to come up with another brilliant 'lite-motif' for the Crystal Skull. That ascending root/tri-tone/octave theme (usually played on a harp) kicks in in the diner and carrys us all the way through to the jungles of the Amazon, and on to the finale of the film.

And lastly, I think that I have finally grasped on a level that makes sense to me, the climax of the story with Spalko and the inter-dimensional beings. Spalko wanted to know everything, and her wish was granted, but her reward was having her eyes burned out and her body obliterated. Perhaps the message is that we're only human, and maybe we're NOT supposed to know everything, but instead have to take a few things in this life on faith. A message that I stated in previous episodes of the "Indy-Cast" that appeals to me about all 3 of the original Indy films. Indy never REALLY gets what he is searching for, but instead finds some faith along the way.

I LOVE Indy IV on DVD. Mark my words, like the other 3 films before it, it will one day be a classic. Forget the haters -- and please bring on Indy V, as soon as humanly possible!!!
