I know I haven't been much of a friend to any of you lately, and you want to hear about me, but that's not what I am thinking about right now. So that will have to wait a little longer. My father-in-law, Ed, will go into heart surgery tomorrow morning in San Francisco. Annie and her sisters and their mom will be close by to support him however they can.
It is difficult for me to describe the depth of Annie's love for her dad. In many ways, he is her hero. He was an example of what a man should be and what a "dad" should be at just the right moment in her life. From my perspective, his influence is unmistakeable on the amazing woman she has become. And for me, since I joined the family, Ed has taught me that the most important thing in life is the company of loved ones. Just to share in the warmth of eachother's company... smiling, laughing, joking, and of course, napping.

I hope he never wonders why we have made such a big fuss at the idea of losing his love in our lives, and losing that chance to give ours back to him. He makes my heart smile, and I hope I can do the same for him the next time I see him! So, keep him in your thoughts and your prayers, would you? Get well soon, Ed!
