Feliciano dos Santos – leader of Mozambiquan band Massukos – is the African winner of this year's Goldman award. Often referred to as the Nobel Prize for the environment, the Goldman award is the world's largest environmental prize for grassroots activists. The award is in recognition of Santos' leading role in campaigning for better public health in Mozambique and music and the band Massukos have played a key part in Santos' initiatives. The prize will be presented at an award ceremony in San Francisco tomorrow evening (14 April). Please go to the www.goldmanprize.org for more information.

Santos will also be available for interviews, live radio sets and tour dates in the UK from the 18th June to the 14th July, when he will be touring with Massukos. Confirmed dates include Glastonbury, Africa Oye, Croydon Summer Festival, Rhythms of the World and a number of other gigs (see www.massukos.com and www.sonicbids.com/massukos for tour details and other band information).

This is an extremely positive and uplifting story, of an ordinary man, who has risen out of poverty and disability to take extraordinary actions to protect the world he lives in.
