Charlie Roth’s Fall News Letter
Hello Everyone,
It has been a great fall in spite of the dreary weather. Andy Dee and I are back on track (literally) and working hard on the upcoming record “Broken Ground” which I am now hoping to have out by my birthday March 7th to coincide with the visit of my friend and fellow songwriter Jonathan Byrd. I have recorded one of his songs on this project and even though I hope you will come out to the show and buy a copy of the new disc, I would highly recommend you also purchase Jonathan’s CD “The Law and The Lonesome” which stayed in my deck till I had memorized every brilliant lyric on it.
The house concert I did with Melissa Greener at Marty and Betsy Mahowald’s was a success and those of you who signed up for the mailing list will be kept informed as to when and where the next house concert will be. Melissa was virtually unknown in St. Cloud but now thanks to her amazing performance that night she has some die- hard fans that I know will come around the next time she passes through.
Since many of you are on my friends list because you saw me playing in a bar somewhere you might be surprised to find out that I am a songwriter. Those of you who signed on at one of the listening venues might also be surprised that I also play bars. I will just say that I hope you will continue to support me where ever I am playing at and all live music for that matter. I feel blessed and lucky that I have been able to play music for a living all these years. I enjoy it all and try my best to do the job that is required of me where ever I play. I absolutely love it when people really listen to the songs and I don’t get mad when they don’t.
I am proud to say that I have joined the Irish music band Ring of Kerry. The 3 Paul’s and Carey are all great players and it is fun music to play. It is actually strange to be back in a band that actually rehearses. We have some shows coming up in December and we have been working hard on the Christmas concert. I will post the dates.
My weekly Tuesday night gig at Rollie’s Rednecks and Longnecks with the great Kurt ‘lightnin’ Rodman changed it start time instead of 9-12 it is now 6-9 and we have seen the crowd increase because of it. Rollie’s is out on Highway 23 toward Foley, it is a country theme bar with great food and a friendly staff. At Rollie’s we play a good dose of honky-tonk music.
My weekly Thursday night 5:30 till 7:30 happy hour gig is still going strong at The Other Bar in Foley it has been almost a year now since it started. Roger and Karen are great and I always mix in a few of my own songs along with joke songs, old favorites, and requests.
