Hey everyone,

We are back!

It has been well over a year since we have played a show, but we have quite a lot of news for you.

Firstly, we have a new drummer.  We would like to welcome Maxime, our bassist Scotty's partner in culinary crime at Benny's Bistro (and 80's hits singing partner) to the band.  It is difficult to find a drummer who just clicks with the band, but with him it just did.  He has added a bit of a jazzy flair to our sound, but we still definitely sound like Books on Books.  You can look forward to seeing Maxime banging the skins in our future shows (see below).

Secondly, we have no website.  We had a bit of a delinquent account with our host, and the exact day after the last day before someone could take our domain name, they did.  Now you can apparently find lots of interesting information in Japanese if you go to booksonbooksrock.com.  That's just mean.  Domain name thievery hurts us all!  Hopefully we will have a new website sooner rather than later.

Thirdly, we actually have shows coming up.  Real ones.  The first time in over a year, for a variety of reasons.  The first is a great band based in Montreal who we have had the pleasure of playing with before.  Flotilla will be releasing their new album in Ottawa on May 30th with us at Irene's, along with Brian Patrick Simms.  We are also playing a show on June 19th with a band I am really excited about called Ancestors at Cafe Dekcuf.  They remind me a little like Drive Like Jehu with Matt from Shotmaker singing (which is good).  Speaking of Matt, he is now drumming form the Weathermakers who are good friends and will also be playing (how's that for a segue, and yes, I had to look the spelling up).  This is our first time we have had the pleasure of playing with them!  And, I don't like spreading rumours, but I don't think this s a rumour any more, but one of my favourite local bands who have played absolutely no shows until now, will be on that bill.  Fans of Constellations and New Autumn (/Spring/Summer/Winter? Etc.)  should definitely check them out.  I have been bugging them to play a show and this just fell into our lap.  Exciting!  We are also playing a street party on Abbey Road in June.

Lastly, my other band, Kingdom Shore will be playing Bluesfest on July 18th at 5:00.  If you bought a pass, come and check us out in the theatre inside the War Museum.

Whoa!  That's a lot.  Just making up for lost time I guess.  Thanks for staying loyal!

Ryan H.
