Current mood:  gallant
Category: Music

This week we calm things down in the musical sense to pay homage to one of the brightest young musical talent that we have produced for quite some time here in the UK. Polly Mackey, along with her band The Pleasure Principle, is not letting her young age prevent her from making some awesome music but don’t just take my word for it, the legend that is New Zealander Cary Caldwell, event organiser for SXSW "Don’t quite know what it is, but the first time I heard Polly Mackey I just thought ‘star in the making’. Only 17 years old and has potential well beyond her years. She’s going to be BIG BIG.

Bio:
After a blistering 9 show debut at SXSW '09, Polly Mackey and her band,
The Pleasure Principle, continue to win industry acclaim as the year comes to an end. Rave reviews at The Great Escape and Liverpool SoundCity festivals were then capped by the band winning Supajam 2009 against 2,000 other bands from across Europe - the prize being the opportunity to play at the FIB Heineken Festival in Benicassim, Spain alongside The Killers, Kings of Leon and Oasis. Having reached the final of 2008's MIBI songwriting awards, Polly's song "The Way it Works" was chosen as 2009's winning song by a prestigious panel of industry judges that included Coldplay's Chris Martin - a former winner of the award.

Members:
Polly Mackey - lead vocals and guitar
Tom Hassall - vocals, lead guitar
Adam Valentime - drums
Tom Ryan - keys
Paul Bates - bass

Influences:
Wide range... from seminal Velvet Underground through Radiohead to The Kills.

Sounds Like:
We're told that we're not easy to pigeonhole and some of the comparisons we've had have been totally surreal... so we'll let you be the
judge!

Current release and where it's available:
First single - Seriously – was released on iTunes earlier this year.

Unsigned myspace artists you would recommend:
The music Scene in our local town - Wrexham - is really vibrant with lots of exciting new bands breaking through all the time. One of our favourite bands is JKLMNO who actually won the Supajam competition last year... when you consider that over 2,000 bands from across Europe enter the competition, for two different Wrexham band to win the first two year's of the competition really says something about how hot the local scene is.

Future Plans:
just signed with SB Management (KT Tunstall, Beth Rowley) and busy writing / rehearsing new material.
