Mavado

“I’m so special; I’m so special, so special, so special”. David Constantine Brooks, better known as Mavado aka Gully God, was born on November 30, 1981. He was raised in an area known as "Cuba", a micro ghetto within the heart of Kingston, Jamaica's Cassava Piece community. The community was considered dangerous and Mavado was exposed to many different things in his youth. Mavado had two major influences in his life that made him want to pursue a career in music. His grandmother who raised him, brought him to church with her each Sunday, and this helped to ignite his love for music. What kept the flame burning was his second influence in his music; his idol, and current label mate Bounty Killer. Bounty Killer and legendary dancehall manager Griffith began to take Gully God under their wing and showed him the ropes of the music business. Gully God & Matthew Samuels (Assistant Manager) met the Daseca Production Crew in 2004, and recorded his debut single "Real McKoy" over the Anger Management Riddim, which in turn made him a sensation in Jamaican dancehall music. His next single brought him more mainstream success, and outside of Jamaica people began to notice him. In 2006, the single "Weh dem a Do" got major airplay worldwide on radio stations such as New York's WQHT (Hot 97). Gully God continued to pursue his musical interest despite turbulence in his personal life including the murder of his father and numerous run-ins with the authorities. In addition to high demand for shows in USA, Mavado has made appearances on high profile events such as BET's Rip The Runway in February 2009. Jamal "Gravy" Woolard, star of Notorious movie, flew back with Mavado to Jamaica in February 2009 to record some tracks after meeting him in New York after confessing that he was a big fan of Mavado and was impressed with his music. “I’m so special” Mavado’s current single that burst onto the sounds waves in 2008/9 and continues to be a hit.
Maino

“You see me, Hi Hater”. Jermaine Coleman also known as Maino is the fast rise to fame rapper that brought us the song we love to use to address all of our haters. Maino is originally from Brooklyn, New York. Upon his release from prison in 2003, Maino immediately founded Hustle Hard Entertainment. Later that year, he had a chance meeting with DJ Kay Slay and was able to secure his first radio appearance. After several mixtape releases and key guest features, he was awarded a recording contract by Universal Records. Maino split with the label in 2007, feeling that they weren't promoting him enough. He later signed with himself and his Hustle Hard imprint to Atlantic Records. His first single from his debut album is "Hi Hater". Maino released the official remix to the song, featuring T.I., Swizz Beatz, Plies, Jadakiss, and Fabolous. The next single was "All the Above", featuring T-Pain. It debuted and peaked at #39 on the Billboard 100, marking this the first single to chart at that chart. The single has been certified gold by the RIAA for digital sales in excess of 500 000. Maino continually encourages us through his music by either encouraging us to embrace and acknowledge the fact that we have haters, or whether it be encouraging us to take the chance and overcome all the above. Whatever it may be Maino is the type of artist that uses his past to speak to his audience and encourage them to seek an even greater future.

David Cook

David Roland Cook was born on December 20, 1982 in Houston, Texas, raised in Blue Springs, Missouri, and currently lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Cook's interest in music began at a young age. He began singing in second grade, when his elementary school music teacher gave him a part in a school Christmas performance. He proceeded to perform in virtually every Christmas and PTA program. He received his first guitar, a Fender Stratocaster, at the age of 13. He also participated in choir and drama programs in middle school and high school. At Blue Springs South High School, he performed in musicals, including The Music Man, West Side Story, and Singin' in the Rain. In addition to this, he was an active member in the Blue Springs South High School National Forensics League (or NFL), where he qualified for the national tournament twice for duo interpretation, an event that relies on performance and interpretation of a literary work. Cook won the seventh season of American Idol on May 21, 2008, receiving 56 percent of the votes, with 12 million votes over David Archuleta, the runner-up. Cook then sang "The Time of My Life", the winning song of the 2008 American Idol Songwriter's Competition. In the final tally, Archuleta received 44 percent of the votes. For the Billboard chart week ending May 25, 2008, a week following Cook's American Idol victory, Cook broke several Billboard chart records. Most notable was his record shattering feat of having eleven songs debut on the Hot 100 that week, beating the previous record set by Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana) in 2006 when she had six songs debut on the chart. Cook's first single, "The Time of My Life" led the pack, debuting at #3 on the Hot 100.
