Just watched Dreyer's 'The Passion of Joan of Arc' a few nights ago which was strange since I would have thought it was something Catholic school would have introduced since they showed us 'Au Revoir Les Enfants', Polanski's 'MacBeth' and played Eric Burden and the Animals 'Wind of Change' in music class – the record with the Black Plague song on it. Great movie – Maria Falconetti is haunting and wild eyed and it's hard to believe that Dane Cook has gone off and appeared in 10 times the number of films (it's true, I looked it up) including that absolute open sewer of a film with Binoche (why?!) and Steve Carell. Back to Joan though, it's funny how little you miss dialogue and a Danny Elfman soundtrack once it gets rolling. I can't believe it's been 20 years since the Dodgers have won the series – better still, I can't believe they've only won a single play off game since 1988. In contrast, the Florida Marlins – an expansion team that pays their players in food stamps and Brazilian Cruzieros (I know, they're 'Reals' now) – have two championships in the last 10 years. The Dodgers have spent $1.2 billion on salaries since 1988 and have yielded one lousy playoff win? The National Endowment for the Arts was allocated roughly the same amount of money over the last 20 yrs and Mike Piazza still can't paint worth a damn. Thanks to everyone who came out to our shows, hitting Ohio's three big C's (Cleveland, Columbus and Dayton) was a load of fun. Special thanks to Joe Anderl for playing, housing, feeding, clothing and setting up our hedge funds. Joe of Anderl: you're a talented, humble and generous friend and we love you. To the Wiz - get over it, LBJ gets the calls. Try winning a game before you pop off.
