Current mood: accomplished
Such a long time since we've done a public event. The Friend Raiser seemed to be the last one! We've been working really hard developing our first strategic plan and building our board of directors, and now we're ready to get back out! So we've got two events coming up. One that is super important. One that mirrors the efforts of our teachers and learners. The other a community jam night, a chance for us to come together and play some music and reap the benefits that follow. So here they are:
The CRF Student CD Release Party Thursday, April 30 5:15 - 6 p.m. Public Library of Westland Westland, MI Free, purchase CDs though! This event is built around the original song, "Animals Need Respect" by The Broken Hearts, a Lincoln Elementary CRF group, written and recorded with lead teacher and local songwriter John Latini. All proceeds from CD sales will go to Friends of Michigan Animal Rescue, a no-kill animal rescue. (http://www.fmar1.com/WhoWeAre.asp) John Latini is hire by CRF who is hired by Bright Futures to teach people in their programs (at different local schools) to write songs by creating lyrics, beats and finally producing the song. With this event we hope to serve the families of the students who wrote and performed the song, as well as promoting Bright Futures, CRF & Friends of Michigan Animal Rescue. We will need help setting up CRF booths, setting up the sound system, helping the students and families have a great time and feel proud of the work they've done, managing food, supplying boom boxes/iPod docks for the various stations, etc. This is a big opportunity to show the media and leaders in our community what we're doing for kids and their families. Let's make this a great event. The presence of Board members and friends of CRF will show how committed we are as an organization to making life better for local kids and their families. Thank you for your help! Please come join us for this!
Community Jazz Night Wednesdays (Starting April 1) 9 p.m. - Midnight Tap Room Annex Ypsilanti, MI Come join us as we kick off our first Community Jazz Night at the Tap Room Annex! Local DJ Peter Moses Brown will be emcee. Also, all ages are welcome! We're looking for jazz groups to play approximately 30 min. sets, hopefully weaving some soloists into the mix. All musical levels and ages are encouraged to come play, mingle, and experience the good vibes. We want to extend the invitation to other local nonprofits to start building community. Community Records Foundation and Ann Arbor Alive Radio sponsor this event. More info on the sponsors: www.crfoundation.net www.a3radio.com www.taproomypsi.com
There is tons to do! Please come join us. We love music! Hopefully you do too!
