Rockin' out of Newark, Delaware's growing jamband scene, Mad-Sweet Pangs is tearing up the jam-scene. This independent jamband has opened for the likes of the Hackensaw Boys, Jonathan Rice, and The Bridge, won best jamband in the Delaware Music Awards, was named best new band on Wilmington radio, was featured on ABC, and toured for the first time culminating in a July 4th bash on the steps of Boston's City Hall. Did we mention all of this happened just in one year! Actually, we stumbled upon Mad-Sweet Pangs long before In The Jam even existed. We were immediately impressed by their song writing skill. Their vocals can be described in one word, incredible. One listen to any song and you know exactly why this band is catapulting through the jam-scene at an incredible rate. They're inspiring lyrics ironically flow mostly from just observations of daily events and feelings. This explains why audiences are so readily able to connect with their songs. These daily observations coupled with the member's love for reading and their close examination of the relationships in their lives, lead to very refined lyric crafting which can be rare amongst jambands. We really can't state it any better then bass player and vocalist, Dustin, of MSP put it, "We…strive for strong, progressive composition. Lyrically, we put a lot of time in because every word is very important. Lyrics aren't arbitrary; they are very loaded language, often of strong feelings. Finding the right word for a strong feeling isn't always easy, but the songs wouldn't be rewarding any other way". In short, the lyrical mastery of Tom Waits couples with Phish's instrumental prowess and The Band's song-writing genius to allow a MSP song to rise above the music out there. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for their new album coming out soon and check these guys out at a live show. If you miss them you will definitely start suffering from some serious mad-sweet pangs.
