I figured in honor of myspace allowing us to up the ante to 6 songs per profile I'd update the page with a few older gems.  As time goes by we'll slip a few more out of the vaults from time to time, but I'll warn you now, it gets a little dusty near the end.

Just Beg Me was the first song we wrote as a band.  When we wrote it Dan Price wasn't even in the room.  He was only absent from the band for the one rehearsal in which we wrote this little ditty.  I hadn't "jammed" with a band in a long time as far as just setting up equipment and playing for the sake of playing.  I don't even know how I got sold into the idea of doing it, but Nick Tolar can be a convincing fellow when he wants to be, and he convinced me to bring my friend Dan Meath over to "jam" with Brian Hill and his Nick self.

I remember bringing over all my effects pedals and figuring that we'd just create some weird loopy odd sounding sonic structures that would break down into a little bit of feedback and that would be that.  I had no idea that after playing through one of Nicks songs and noodling around a bit that I'd hit upon the four chords that would make up the structure of the song.

When I started playing I remember everyone looking at me, getting silent and then all coming in at once.  It was a very powerful moment.  While the other guys went to have a water break I sat in Brians basement scribbling lyrics down frantically and we eventually recorded a very grainy demo of the song on a little boombox that was lying around.

The version you have here is the second of two "studio" attempts at the song.  the first version actually got us our first number 1 on any sort of radio chart.  It was the short lived internet station wdub.com that gave us that honor and I wish they would've stuck around longer then they did.  le sigh.

we got asked to re-record the song one more time while we were making until the next red light, but we felt our songwriting had matured past that point and that while the song was catchy and perhaps the most poppy thing we'd ever done it would plague us with nothing but weezer comparisons for the rest of our days and we certainly didn't want that.

Neither Do I was a song that we wrote very quickly and directly as a result of Brian showing up to one of our rehearsals late.  There was a time very early on where we were creating songs at a very rapid rate.  Some would get chucked to the side pretty quickly but we'd still manage to write songs very quickly early on.  Eventually we hit a point where we felt it was extremely important to not repeat ourselves and so as we progressed it got harder and harder to write songs as we had to keep pushing ourselves further and further.  That being said this was early on and we were rehearsing for one of our first shows and insted of showing up at 5 to rehearse what songs we had, Brian showed up at 6:30.  So with only a half hour to do anything we just started playing and this song quickly materialized.

I remember Brian taking credit for writing this song cause we couldn't have created it without his tardiness.  It turned out to be the song we used to close all our shows for the first year or so of playing together.

This version is an out take from the "Until the Next Red Light" sessions.  I'm very happy with the recording but ultimately we didn't want UTNRL to be that long and we didn't want to focus on to much of our early material, so most of the really early songs got scrapped in favor for the new stuff at the time, save for "Running my hand across your leg at 60mph".

So there you have it, the stories behind the two newer songs posted on this here myspace.

Enjoy, and take care of yourself, then others.
