In January of 2008, Eric Boyd left his home in Pittsburgh. On a train, leaving at midnight, he headed towards Fairfield Iowa to attend the Maharishi University of Management. A few weeks after arriving, and while Eric was planning a trip to India, Maharishi died. Some months later, back in Pittsburgh, Eric was kicked out of his old home and, for a short time, was left with nowhere to go. As Barack Obama's race to the White House began, Boyd found himself volunteering for the man, if only because it provided him with a warm place to stay. In December, a man dressed as Santa went on a shooting spree...and it all seemed sadly appropriate.
"LAST YEAR" compiles the events, thoughts, and feelings 2008 brought to Boyd. His neo-expressionist works reflect the beautiful confusion we all may feel as the months go by and we wonder how much stranger things can get...
This work is presented by Steel Valley Arts Council (SVAC), a not for profit arts organization serving the areas of Homestead, West Homestead, and Munhall, at artspace 105, located at 105 East Eighth Avenue in Homestead at the end of the Homestead Grays Bridge. Roslyn Stulga, president of SVAC said, “The work Eric is exhibiting here is a great example of discovery during the artistic process. Eric’s life and experiences dictate his subject matter, as he strives to make sense and draw commonalities between his individual circumstances and how they link us together. ”
Eric Boyd uses inks, watercolors, and house paints for most of his two dimensional works. He has won several photography contests and has sold three film scripts.
He was born at 3:33am on October 16th, 1988.
