Current mood: hopeful
Honduras is one of the 21 developing countries where FINCA operates, and we are monitoring closely the current crisis there. According to the most recent update we received from our regional director, all of our offices are open, and the situation in Honduras is relatively calm at the moment. "There have been only two difficult days, including the violence this past Sunday at the Tegucigalpa airport, however, our operations have not been affected. There were threats recently by Zelaya supporters that they would essentially try to shut down the country - closing major highways, etc - but they have put these actions on hold for the moment as the two parties have expressed a willingness to negotiate. Oscar Arias, president of Costa Rica, will lead negotiations and we are hopeful that this situation will be resolved in the very near future."- Phil Broughton, Regional Director FINCA Latin America ( Click here to go to the FINCA Latin America page )
