Who Gives Kudos:

Before the show takes 3 weeks off, Selected Hilarity alumnus Bryan Tucker has let us in on his thoughts from last week's show:

It was a fun show. Ashton Kutcher seems to know a lot of celebrities, so people like Cameron Diaz, P. Diddy and, of course, Demi Moore were there. Ashton is in an upcoming movie with Cameron Diaz, so her publicity people encouraged her to come on the show and do something. That "Cougar Den" sketch was perfect because it allowed her to be a fun character and get a lot of milage out of one sketch. I think it was originally written for Demi Moore, but Cameron replaced her on Thursday.

The "Death by Chocolate" shorts were written and directed by "Juno" director Jason Reitman. He had come by the show when Ellen Page was hosting and mentioned that he'd love to do something. So, they gave him a guest writing spot for the week, and he ended up doing those three short films. It was interesting to see an Oscar-nominated director get treated like all the other writers. They gave him the only office available - a small, dimly lit closet type area that is always given to the new writers on the show. I got to talk with him a little throughout the week, and he was a very nice, down to earth guy who just seemed to love comedy.

That "Bar Song" sketch was the third one I've written with Jason Sudeikis. We did one with Rainn Wilson, one with Zach Braff, and now one with Ashton. Ashton's original line didn't go over so great in rehearsal, so we changed it at the last minute between dress and air. We had to rehearse it at least once, so I gathered all the cast and a cue card guy and we sat in Ashton's dressing room and did the sketch during Weekend Update. It was weird to be sitting there watching four guys sit on the floor saying these crude and nasty things while P. Diddy and Demi Moore looked on. it turned out that the new line wasn't so wonderful either, but that's the nature of the show. It's live and you have only a limited amount of time to try and make it work.

Hi Bryan. I really enjoy reading your posts. I went to High School with Scotty Brown, and frequently saw Selected Hilarity at UNC. I am so happy to see you on SNL. That has always been my dream job, to be a writer or performer on SNL, but at some point during my days at UNC, I gave up on that dream. Now I can live vicariously through your blogs. Maybe one day I can forward an idea to you that you can delete. Keep the blogs coming.
