Major athletic apparel companies and major corporate brands continue to pay top dollar in athlete endorsements. They then turn around and spend millions of dollars marketing these athletes with the messages of “Be Like this athlete and buy their products”. But the next thing you know, your hearing on the news as to how this same ‘superstar’ was arrested for committing a crime, or any number news worthy screw-ups. So what’s the message these companies are sending out? They’re sending mixed messages. Because you can’t say “be like this athlete… some of the time”. We have a generation of young people who have been bombarded with marketing campaigns and have spent millions of dollars of athlete-endorsed product only to watch these same athletes setting all the wrong examples in there personal lives...
