THRESHOLDS



Playing in places, found, sought, and stumbled on.




Recording project for this spring and summer


Duets with a place: To affect and be changed by the atmosphere & reverberations in an environment. To blend, break, push, submit, or challenge by listening to it.


I aim to play in public, private, in relative silence or noise, in nature, institutions, places of rest, or action, in the street, in homes, at height, and belowground, amongst people and in solitude.


This idea came about through playing in the canteen and the lift of Southampton Art College in the summer of ’08, and through a desire to return to the humble activity of busking.


-Often the busker is at odds with the environment, judged by his/her ability to pull attention away from the surroundings and onto themselves. I thought it would be good, instead, for the busker to be communing with the surroundings, and drawing the listeners ear to the musicality that lies all around us, as so much of the time we go through environments whether urban or natural, working hard to block out the sound worlds that are there already-
