Okay guys, so Clara & I went to see the movie on Saturday afternoon and Eric joined us... all i can say is TOTALLY TUBULAR DUDES!!!
I am, as you all should know by now, a HUGE geek and I grew up on these guys... quite literally. I have known the Fab Four of Superheroes since I was around 7 years old. I grew up watching the cheesy and goofy (although at the time it was badass in my mind) cartoon show on saturday mornings. I had (and still have) all the toys, and I had bedsheets. I loved them... then I fell in love with the first live action movie, (still on my 'top 10 movies all time' list. I still remember the day I came home from school in 2nd grade to find the first theatrical poster (the one with 'em looking out from the sewer lid, with New York's city skyline behind them) hanging over my drawing desk in my bedroom.. YES, I really did have a drawing desk in my room @ the age of 8. It was much more serious and darker, while still maintaining the fun I had come to know and love from the Turtles. The 2nd movie was 'okay' at the time, i remember LOVING Tokka and Rahzar... but wishing they were Rocksteady and Bebop. I remember LOVING Super Shredder and Cherishing the action figure when my Mom found him for me @ CHILDREN'S PALACE. However, even as a kid I thought "VANILLA FREAKING ICE?!?!" wtf indeed. The 3rd was ... well, words escape me on just how shitty that turd bomb was... ughh. The comics came next for me around middle school. They were darker and edgier... just what Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird had imagined. I LOVED THEM. It was like as I grew older, and new breed of Turtle met me... to fit my current age... we were growing together...awwww. Later on, around 2000 or 2001, I believe, Peter Laird launched the NEW TMNT cartoon.... which followed the comics more closely and treated the Turtles seriously, I again LOVED it... The Turtles were back for a whole new generation... and I was back to buying TMNT toys...it felt gooood.
Then came the news all lil "shell Heads" had hoped for... A NEW TMNT MOVIE!!!
I was looking forward to it, although a bit fearful that it would be TMNT 2 or even... (gasp) TMNT 3 all over again...
but my fears were layed to rest with the first trailer.... OMG!!! I was SOOOOO ready to KICK SOME SHELL DUDES!!!
So, as for THIS movie goes.... it toally rocks. It is just as good, if not better than the 1st movie... and fits in nicely as either a replacement for 2 and 3, or just TMNT 4. Yes, those 3 movies are referenced in this flick... whhich was waaaay cool. I have said to others that, to me, these characters are like friends... much like Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman...or the Star Wars guys, I grew up with these guys. I know them on a personal level... so to see them BIG BOLD AND ACTION PACKED on the big screen brings a smile to my face..one that lasted through the whole movie. i felt like I was 8 years old again, thrilling to the adventure and enjoying every minute. The movie treats our heroes with dignity and respect and never once gives you the "wink wink, yeah this is RIDICULOUS, we know" vibe... it just lays it out and says "this is what we do"...to borrow a line from an oldie but goodie. It never stops from the start, it is fun, exciting, touching, funny, and just plain AWESOME. Clara even teared up at one point... now, what other all CGI movie can do that? I wont do spoiler, because I HATE it when people do that... so this was quick over view of what I thought.
Now, i know some of you who read this and have seen the movie will have gripes and complaints and try to analyze and cut it apart and poke holes in the plot ... like u do with every movie that isn't "culturally relevant" or "deep and profound" ... but really, to be blunt... WHO THE SHELL CARES?!? Did u have fun? YES Were you dazzled? HELL YES!!! Do you wanna see it like 4 more times? HELL YES AGAIN!!! So, sit back, relax and enjoy... one of the best movies I have seen it a long time is out now... and I am totally jazzed.
COWABUNGA!!!
PS- McDoanld's has TMNT toys in there happy meals... guess who already had Mike and Don? ME!!! I'm gettin 'em all, dudes!!!
PS again... the drawing attached was done by myself... comments are welcomed.
