BILGE PUMP- The 'perlative Pumped Bilge trio ride into Bristowl with a tight set of contemporary tunes. They've created tunes with barbed Zep Butthole guitar and overdriven strangler bass all thrown about by drums akin to Mitch Mitchell. Do you hear or see it in your head? A loud twisting dynamism unaffected by temporal modishness and fickle skinny jeaned styling's The extra special thing to the world of recorded music is that they'll be brandishing a new record released on the Gringo records company of Nottingham. If you're not fussed about seeing one of the finest Rock bands around then don't turn up. A common boast granted but if you're the cynical type, turn up then think about getting slanderous and cowardly on a dumb faceless forum. If you want to tell your kids you've seen an amazing band that give a proper shit about their tone and form, that play tune upon tune through great amps and nice drums, in a place with clean toilets, come down, drink liquids and witness them in a room with a dry acoustic and a warm atmosphere. Although I will say soft drinks are overpriced. www.myspace.com/bilgepump www.gringorecords.com
THE LIFTMEN- I've saw The Liftmen in that crazy oversized silver arena gazebo type structure at Ashton Court festival the summer just, and lapped it up, no fuss. They patiently glid' through an array of groove laden rock tunes all charming and articulate with bright obscure and then direct lyricism, often with a back to nature feel, maybe it was the wellingtons. They sing, harmonise and dish out twisty, fuzzy riffs with immediate hooks. Some of it reminded me of a funky Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, some of it feels more jammed, cooler even, but all with a self assured modesty and style everyone including the newts dig. A proper fresh and locally sourced accompaniment to the Bilge feast. www.myspace.com/theliftmen sparror.cubecinema.com/rasha/
