Now this might sound like I'm being ignorant where political correctness is concerned. But it's an absolute gobshite in a number of respects. People seem to be much more sensitive to what's been said and (possibly) complain for the sake of it. To explain what I'm meaning here are some examples. Especially since the Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross prank call.

Jeremy Clarkson
Funny? Offensive?

Well Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson has sparked controversy of late with his remarks.

For starters is the joke of lorry drivers murdering prosititutes. With the quotes "What matters to lorry drivers? Murdering prostitutes?" and "Change gear, change gear, check mirror, murder a prostitute, change gear, change gear, murder. That's a lot of effort in a day". This has resulted in just over 500 complaints. The BBC defended Clarkson by stating that "The vast majority of Top Gear viewers have clear expectations of Jeremy Clarkson's long-established and frequently provocative on-screen persona". Ironically enough, the lorry drivers saw the humour in Clarkson's joke and those who complained probably don't really watch Top Gear. Complaining for the sake of it really.

Then there's him recently calling Prime Minister, Gordon Brown "a one-eyed Scottish idiot" but has appologised for that. MPs and Scottish have complained about that. But at the end of the day, this was directly at Gordon Brown. NOT Scottish people. NOT blind people. I mean come on, Gordon Brown has took plenty of stick (which most politicians and PMs do). I think people are being over sensitive about that.

God, the conlcusion is that Jeremy Clarkson is not there to be taken seriously. Get a sense of humour.

Carol Thatcher
Is she being racist?

Carol Thatcher got the sack for reffering a tennis player as a "golliwog" from The One Show on BBC1 recently. The BBC sacked her which got people ranting to the Beeb. Golliwogs started out as an innocent children's toy and got banned because its black which asumes it's "racist". I mean if you refer someone with very pale skin as a "snowman". Is that racist because a snowman is white? It wouldn't.

Conclusion

Well when political correctness is being such a big deal. Is it taking away our freedom of speech? Is it a case of what we can and cannot say? Well you pretty much have to take more on account now. It's not just what and how you say comments, remarks, statements, etc. You have to take in account what and how people will percieve it as well. I pretty much think we're not entitled to say what we think but we will always be allowed to keep our thoughts to ourselves and be entitled to an opinion. There's not really any common sense here, people should learn to tolerate controversial and outspoken statements. A bit oversensitive about it really. Political correctness is way OTT! Enough said.
