I love the idea of making a record. A record used to be the word used for a single. When Carl Perkins talks about Little Richard he says "When that record (Tutti Frutti) hit, we all knew we would need to work harder." Original lyrics of Tutti Frutti:
Tutti Frutti, loose booty, if it don't fit, don't force it. You can grease it, make it easy.
Absolute raunch. But I digress. A record. I grew up with records. The sound when the needle hits the grooves, before the music starts. The anticipation of the unknown music. I had and still have bags and bags of 45's. The strangest collection of records. I don't defend my records anymore - and trust me, there is some embarassing material in there. I learned as much from Mac Davis as I did Steve Marriot. Baby, baby, don't get hooked on me, indeed.
I bought Kiss Alive II with my own money, based solely on the bewitching album cover. I was 7. It came with tattoos that I was forced to wash off before dinner. I answered to nothing but Beth for a year. It was the greatest music I had ever heard. It was the sound of that crowd that made me want to perform.
We're recording a record. A single, really. Rob, being in the Spinns, is familiar with releasing records. I don't think Dave has ever released a record, I certainly have not. I am so excited I can barely contain myself. We haven't recorded it yet and I'm trying to harness the pressure I already feel. We have the artwork done (Brian Walsby did it - it is hilarious) and Churchkey Records (Tooth, Dry Heathens) is going to release it. We're putting Railroaded and the new song, Mexico Way, on it.
Saturdays are always my profound days.
