Current mood:  overstimulated

We hope you will excuse our lack of recent updates, it has been beyond busy here at Tree House with outreach events and fundraisers, educating the public about TNR, and adopting out a record breaking number of cats.

The past two months have been fabulous for our adoptions department! In July we set a new record for adoptions, doing 64 for the month. Not only was this the most adoptions performed to date, it was also during one of our slowest months. We weren't long in keeping that number though, August ended with 68 adoptions! Two record breaking months and a strong month so far leaves us with 427 adoptions, well on our way to reaching 600 adoptions for the year. Among the many cats adopted in the past few months are a number of special needs cats and many long time residents. While we are happy for all of our cats who find homes, we are especially excited for cats like Grinch, Shirley, Sesame, Dolly P and Waylon, and Princess Lea, all special needs cats who had been here at least a year. Thanks to everyone who has helped us reach our goal—volunteers, donors, supporters, adopters, and everyone who spreads the word about Tree House, we couldn't do it without you.

Summer festivals may be winding down, but Tree House is still keeping busy spreading the word about our mission and the importance of caring for all cats. We have many events coming up in the next few months. This coming Saturday, September 20, Tree House will be sponsoring a low cost Microchip Day at the Cat Hospital of Chicago, $20 microchipping for all cats and dogs!

On Monday, September 22 we will be holding our first ever hamBingo at Hamburger Mary's. The event runs from 8-10pm, $5 a card; the evening will be hosted by drag-diva Regina Upright.

Friday September 26 there is a benefit concert for Tree House at the Cobra Lounge, 235 N. Ashland. For more information about the benefit concert or any of the other events listed please contact Erin at erin@treehouseanimals.org.

Keep your eyes out for more information on our upcoming fall fundraiser the Hair Ball. It is Saturday, October 18 from 7-10pm. More information will be forthcoming. Hair Ball replaces our Cats on Parade Art Auction this year.

We have had such a strong response to our TNR program that we recently hired two new Feral Friends Coordinators to help expand our reach. Keep spreading the word about TNR, people are listening!

Unfortunately there are still many people who don't understand the importance of having their pets spayed and neutered or having their pets microchipped. Even as we complete a record number of adoptions the calls keep pouring in about admitting unwanted cats. The best way you can help Tree House and all the cats out there is to spread the word about TNR, Spaying/Neutering, keeping cats indoors and having some form of ID on your cat, should he get out.  Tree House has plenty of resources for you, should you need assistance in reaching out to your friends and neighbors.
