The term "Whites", hurts my eardrums. That's the exact term western media keeps on using when describing Zimbabwean minority.
The minority that keeps on suffering under the regime of Mr. Robert Mugabe.
I always wondered why they never used the right term "the English"?
Is it because the members of the nation that stripped half of the world of it's natural resources and committed the worst atrocities in the history of the world deserve no sympathy?
Of course the term "whites" brings more sympathy from the European homes. Of course it brings popularity to the English farmers that still live by the 19.century rules, where a black man's role of a foreigner in his own country was widely embraced.
But the fact is that they are English, that they are being referred to as the English by the Zimbabweans, and that they hold English passports.
So what is it that the media don't tell us?
By now you must be used to the fact that they're always hiding the interesting part.
I'll tell you what!
5% of Zimbabwe's population which accidentally happens to be English owns 95% of land in Zimbabwe.
How did they become owners?
Was it by hard work and ability that characterizes them or was it by the hand of her majesty the Queen that their fathers were given somebody else's land to control and do as they please?
Have a guess? You're a wise guy otherwise you wouldn't be on this web site.
Now, while 95% of Zimbabwe's population lives on the 5% of land, the English farmers grow genetically modified crops on their land, help keep the low prices in English supermarkets such as ASDA and Sainsbury's , and make a hell of a profit which by the way by no means benefits the population of Zimbabwe, which struggles to survive.
They always have a choice to seek work on one of the farms. The pay is a dollar per day. Long live freedom.
Now, Zimbabwe is a free country. Actually I'd say it's more free than any other African country.
Other African countries while "independent" still depend mostly upon western powers and the regimes dance to the sound of the popular beats from the western chart lists.
Still, does it make them richer than Zimbabwe?
Of course not.
Dancing to their beat is not about improving your economy, it's about being safe. Well I feel much safer ruling my own land.
As much as they try to satanise Mr.mugabe, this time they'll face troubles convincing any African, that the world has to interfere and stop the seizure of farms by the Zimbabweans.
We've seen the alternative. It can't get worse.
Mr.Mugabe chose to resist. Not an easy path, we have seen on recent examples of Iraq and Serbia.
But hey, trust me it's worth it.
Anyway, I'd much rather dance to the reggae and be poor, than dance to the sound of the western swindle and be accepted.

This was an excellent article. The European media here in the states and our government are working hard to demonize Robert Mugabe. And describing the "white" farmers as the owners. Leave people the believe that the indigenous Africans have no right to "take" this "white" land. Americans have no knowledge of history, especially the history of Africa. The people here are taught fantasy through television, movies and in the educational system.

I thank you for posting this and recognizing the "color caste system" game that is being played at every turn.

big up abdel!
its a good article regarding the crisis in zimbabwe which used to be called the food basket of africa...but now its struggling for survival....
i have mixed opinions about mr.mugabe....the takeover of the british farms who were exploiting the country was the only righteous thing to do, but this same farms aren't operating now....thats why people don't have no food to eat even now....mugabe is on power since 1980, and thats a mighty long time for a political leader....although better than any neo-collonial leader, mugabe unleashes similar amount of sufferation among his own people with his dictator-like ruling...with ongoing 27 years in the office u tend to forget the poor man problems...and thats what i think happend to mugabe....
demolishing the opposition step by step is also not a wise step for him, although it would be more terrifing for the country if the pro-west opposition would gain power...
the removal of mugabe for me now it would be a wise thing, still the approach would have to be the same although more soft and not dictator like...turning away from the western neo-collonisation and start to stabilizing the economy by importing from other african countries some experts in farming, so that the abandoned farms would start to work again - doing their only righteous job: feeding its own people......
its a complex situation.....

the only possible solution is the fc apatride way: don't let the capitalists in your countries!!!

big up abdel!

Greetings
A balanced response, Countryman, give thanks. Although I agree that the land had to be taken away from the English farmers, the situation there now is much worse. People are dying from hunger and disease. Speaking against Mugabe carries a 20 year prison sentence. People are fleeing the country finding it better to live as illegal immigrants in neighbouring African states. I do not get this from the Western press. I know a bredren from Zimbabwe.
It is full time that Mugabe stepped down and let someone else try to sort out the mess that Zimbabwe is in.
Also Mugabe is giving sanctuary to Mengistu the former dictator of Ethiopia who overthrew His Imperial Majesty and murdered thousands of Ethiopians. He has been sentenced to death in his absence but Mugabe refuses to hand him over. He is living in luxury in Zimbabwe.

Jah bless

This is so well-written. The term "whites" hurts my eardrums, too. I am so sick and tired of people referring to other people by the color of their skin; we are all humans. Hu = breath, mans = substance, matter. We were all created from the substance of the earth and given the breath of life.

I am an American woman, of Scottish and German extraction, with a heart troubled by the injustice and suffering of the American Indians, and of innocent children and people everywhere. We must learn to care about each other and reach out to each other. If the governments and corporations won't do it, and they won't (where the bottom line is profit), then we must.

I used to be proud of my country, but today I am ashamed that the US Government owes the United Nations more than $900 billion, that US corporations are hijacking the resources, the lives and ways of living of other countries around the earth, and that US citizens are so complacent and asleep, like sheep, listening to all the ads and commercials on TV, and being greedy and buying more things they don't need so that they live in debt.

The American way of life has become too expensive for the rest of the world. And yet, people in the US, if they would just wake up from their sleep, could fight to take back their freedoms and make a difference for everyone. It is the lack of caring that I see, each one for himself, how much money can they make, the meanness and selfishness, that frightens me the most.

So much is wrong, it makes me want to weep. I cry for the people, for the trees and plants and animals and the waters that are polluted and the air that is filled with chemicals. The earth itself is suffering.

I never know what I will find when I go to my new friends' music here and listen to the wonderful music. And then to read such intelligent and enlightening words as these in the blogs - I am amazed! I am grateful we can communicate this way. This is our light and our hope that we can communicate and go around the powers that be as much as we can, and be full of love and strength for each other, and know that we carry each other in our hearts.

A poor man who has his soul is richer than the wealthiest man who has lost his heart.
